997 Turbo vs. 991 Carerra S?
Discussion
Guys -
help me out here -
I'm still debating internally betwixt and old school brutal 3.6 Gen one 997 Turbo
or
an early-ish 991 with a nice spec
currenly headed towards the newer car, for everyday ease and lower running costs
but there is part of me that has always longed for a 911 turbo in black, and the potential to scratch that itch is also very strong.
Be interested in perspectives on the everyday usability of both.
Will be a weekend car for me - but my wifie will occasionally need to take it into the office (short commute, safe car park)
She is short and weak, and already moans about having to drive the (manual) boxster in traffic...
budget top end £50k
anything else to consider i may have overlooked?
Thanks y'all

You should drive both I'd personally take the C2S if only one car but I'd want one of the very last 991.1 and a low owners, low mileage with ceramics if possible which is still under OPC warranty. If you have turbo itch you can not go wrong with that 911 Virgin turbo you were looking at either if you ask them for a 12 month warranty with the car which is the only thing I ask for when buying from 911 Virgin as cars are generally priced very fairly. You could swap after a year without losing any cash on the turbo they've priced it well. Same with a good spec 991 like this one if you can find one. Nice choice to have. They're so different you need to drive both really

If you’ve always wanted a brutal 911 turbo I think you know the answer - the only thing I’d say is it might not be wife friendly. I daily my 996 turbo but my wife won’t drive it - thinks all the controls are too heavy. She previously drove out early 2.5 Boxster so I think your wife might find the same
However, she would get used to it!

For heaven's sake man, you've answered your own question.but there is part of me that has always longed for a 911 turbo in black, and the potential to scratch that itch is also very strong.
Buy the wife an old petrol Fiesta, and everybody wins.
looks like a nice 991 S, not a fan of auto, but I guess if you get used to it its almost ideal, also a 991 seems 'better' then a 997, its also faster on the Ring I believe.
saying all that, a 997.1 Turbo manual looks more interesting for the driver, for fun, for interacting with the car, more analog?
never driving the more modern Porsche's though (owned some older 930 and 964 ones), just also keeping an eye on some Turbo's with a manual, or the tuned versions say 600hp .1 models or the 500hp 997.2manuals (but more rare and expensive) or... the 997 GT2 with standard 530hp and manual, but, those come at a high price.

Not so great -
The one at 911 Virgin went this morning
Saw a lovely Cab at Paul Devyea this morning, lovely condition and miles - had been 'driven by pussies' (direct quote)
, and had a full Porsche main dealer history to less than 60k miles
BUT its a cab....
RSJ had also sold the widebody carrera that i was planning to go and see...
Three more Turbos in the running - hoping to see two tomorrow
:
This one in Colchester higher on miles but its good condition and its a MANUAL
This one in Leicester slightly more dosh - nicer miles, milltech exhaush, interesting finish (red stitching), is a 1.5 so the later PCM (i think?)
Finally, this one in Birmingham again later year, modern nav unit - looks like a small trader who has it as his personal car..... don't know the implication of this?? (not been taxed since '21)
Lined up the first in Colchester early doors tomorrow and then going to see if i can squeeze in a drive up to Leicester and round to Brum to have a decent comparison.
or - I might just buy this one on a sight unseen basis... anyone seen this style of auction site before?
has a phenomenal level of detail online - but looks to be, missing the proof of early services from the documentation?
Any pointers on any of the above most welcome!
Cheers guys,
Bergs
