rear end of 997 turbo?
Discussion
Hi Guys -
what year do the 997 switch to the 'partial chinese eye' rear lights?
three 997 turbos I'm loking at - & the chronology looks really askew:
2007: ( this ad

2008: ([url]this ad|

2009: ( this ad

seem to be an inconguous 1.5 rear end registered in 2007, wheras the later cars at straight 997.1 rear ends?
am I missing something?
any view on the specific car in general would be awesome -
i'd been looking at an early 991, but as these were wandereding into budget - i got distracted....
Have wanted a black turbo since watcing the Condorman car chase scene at teh cinema in Bedford, when I was five - pretty sure my porsche obsession stemmed from there... :-)

2009 was a transitional year for the Turbo. Some early 09 cars still have the 997.1 non-led rear lights and bumper.
The 07 car above has likely had the rear end replaced. If it's Tiptronic, then it's a 997.1. They switched to PDK for 997.2.
You can also tell 997.1 cars by looking at the PCM. It looks very dated with loads of buttons on it. It's hard to tell from the dealer pics above, but it may have been replaced by an aftermarket unit.
There is also a 997.1.5 Turbo, but these are rare and fetch a premium. They are essentially 997.1 Mezger engined cars with the updated interior and PCM.

The first one is a Gen 1 but has had the rear bumper swapped to a Gen 2 and what looks like aftermarket lights fitted. The other two are correct in period and, for me at least, the Gen 1 looks better when left as Porsche intended.
Gen 1.5 sometimes had the all-red tail lights from factory as that became an option, but they no longer command a significant premium as the PCCM+ is now available to modernise the interior tech, and they are basically same car underneath (some suggest there was a performance upgrade but that's never been confirmed).
If you're in the market any 2006-9 will fit the bill for a Gen 1 and just buy on condition

Thanks IMI - good to know!
Were you looking at this one yesterday as well?: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2005-porsche-9...
50k inc premium strong money, but did look like an absolute rocking motor 👍🏻

I know that 996 turbo s too my indy looks after it. Runs circa 550bhp the mods really add to its value as the price shows the market is happy to pay for quality upgrades nowadays. A mate sold a 30k mile 997 turbo with my tuning kit from 9e for £80k about 3 years ago. Pretty sure that JZM 997.1 turbo at 911v running circa 550bhp too unless its been remapped back to stock. Think either JZM or 9e tuned it can't remember but may well have now been tuned back to stock.
