Taking the Targa on a road trip over the half term with the two kids. Planning to drive from Hertfordshire to Cheltenham with a stop over somewhere (possibly Oxford). Don’t want to subject the youngest to much over an hour in the back without a break! One night in Cheltenham then a drive to Newport, Wales. Could anyone kindly recommend any scenic routes. Esp from Cheltenham to Newport?

Can't help with your question, but I will take my 997 this coming weekend for a family trip too. 3h drive (one way) with a 2 y.o. in the back, stroller in the front.

So you're going through the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean?

Try looking at a map.

A40 to Gloucester, then A4136 through the Forest of Dean to Monmouth, then rejoin the A40 and then down the A449 to Newport probably the simplest without going too far out of your way.

If you want more of a detour, go North from Cheltenham on the A435 to Tewkesbury (taking in 'the seven bends' near Pamington), then take the A438 to Ledbury, before taking the A449 from Ledbury all the way to Newport.

Between Oxford and Cheltenham - rather than go along the A40, perhaps consider going North-West on the A44 to Chipping Norton and then take the A436 to Stow and then enjoy the B4077 all the way to Teddington before picking up the A435 South into Cheltenham.
