Hi all,

Finally got "the call" for a GT3 build.
Currently driving a 718 GT4 manual. Mainly drive it on track. Now I've got the GT3 allocation, I was wondering, in real life, how the MT feels? Obviously there's another 1000 rpm to go with that, compared to my GT4, but if I'm correct, it tops out at the same, 82mph in second?
Hopefully this year I'll have a bit more time to drive away from the track, just wondered how people found it on the road.

Thanks!

Looking to get some info on this too as looking to get a 991.2 GT3 manual.

I'd say the gearing won't feel as long given (i) higher power means less space to punch to the Vmax at any given gear; and (ii) despite the similar top speeds in gear, the GT3 - like you say - has an additional 1,000 RPM so on a like-for-like basis, the gearing is probably ~10% shorter, so you'd be in higher RPMs at the same speed in the same gear so would have more punch (ignoring point (i) too).

I had a 718 GT4 before my GT3 and on the road, the GT3 is much more engaging gearing wise. That extra 1000 ish rpm makes a big difference, as does the torque and the additional noise,’but the gearing is lower too.

Haven’t 992 touring orders been closed ages ago?
Or are they making a 992.2 touring?

They did this with 991 gen 2 , delivered first lot then magically found more production .

I think my car will be the last on the OPC is getting, from what I understand!

Ok, this might sound like a silly question, but do GT3 drivers hit 9000 on the road? Or is the feeling of 8000 enough?

In 14 years of GT3 and now GT4 ownership I don't think I've hit the redline more than a handful of times, mostly during overtakes.

Considering the speeds that you reach even in the lower gears to me it would really feel irresponsible to drive the car as I would on track...

Even 7k is usually plenty, and the engine is already quite vocal at that point!

Yes but it’s tricky ,you need a very clear road because you will be travelling very fast .
I do find it easier with pdk because it just allows you to do silly things you wouldn’t in a manual .

I also have a build for a Touring, (September). Hoping for PTS but we will see... PDK or Manual, I just can't decided.

No, mines manual. That pic is on a flat section of track.

I rarely get it near the redline on the road. Can’t even stretch its legs on the road really, but the manual gearbox, torque and the noise still makes it an exciting drive for me.

If you get involved in the allocation game then you have to play it well and play by the rules.

So yes, much easier and cheaper in the long run to just buy a used one, especially if you have no real interest in their other cars.

No point becoming beholden to anyone - there are plenty available.

Just sold my 991.2 GT3 manual and own a 718 GT4 manual both from new.

You reach the red line much quicker in the GT3 mainly due to the gearing and top end punch and for road use there is little point taking it above 7k anyway. In many respects the GT3 is almost too fast for the road.

Seem to recollect the GT4 tops out at 83 in 2nd whereas the GT3 is around 80.
