Hey all,

So I’m looking to buy a MY09 3.8S with what appears to be 99.9% piston slap and requiring a rebuild.

Now I know that there are companies like Hartech that have a menu pricing on rebuilding the 997.1 engines but next to nothing on the 997.2

Any pointers on potential cost and firms that can do the job would be of great help.

You may be lucky. I think Baz from Hartech is specifically looking for a 997.2 with this problem for some development work. I would call them.

There has been a lot of speculation on how long it would be before we started to see "Gen2" engines failing ... I think that Baz has also been waiting quite a long time to get his hands on one ...

Unless I am mistaken, almost 15 years sounds a fair starting point ?

It turns out that this a bit of a palaver. There are very few companies out there that will even broach the subject of a rebuild, so they default to buying a short block from Porsche for approximately £16k fitted.

Suffice it to say, I’m out.

The search continues.

Not at the moment, no. They’re in the buy a short block engine camp for now, but there could be a 4.0 version in the near future.
