Picked up my new gt3 two weeks ago. Only done 60 miles. I was getting the car ready on Sunday morning to go to a local car show. I put some stuff in the passenger footwell and upon closing the door. Shock horror I noticed that the rear side window has cracked. I didn't man handle the car in any way. I am the only person that has been near the car which is garaged and it definitely wasn't cracked when I cleaned the car a few days earlier.
I've looked on the Web and Rennlist have mentioned a few others have had this problem. Has anyone on here had experience of this. Its booked in to be fixed just hoping its on warranty.

Sounds like you found the right thread on RL. My '21 GT3 had a cracked passenger window which was replaced by the dealer prior to handover day two weeks ago.

It happens when the passenger window moves within the fastenings, then when you open the door the window automatically drops slightly resulting in glass to glass contact. You wouldn't normally notice or do any damage at this point but when you close the door again it's a glass to glass impact. If you measure the gaps between the side windows and the quarter windows, you'll probably find it's ~5-6mm on the damaged side and 8-10mm on the drivers side. And if you close your door slowly you will likely see the glass to glass contact I'm referring to before the window automatically rises on door shut. Should be a warranty replacement.

Edit : also check that your passenger window is not chipped on the inside edge where it has contacted the quarter window

Thanks, I've tested and the windows don't touch.

Did you end up getting the rear quarter window done under warranty? I’ve had the same happen just now!

Yes all done by southlondon opc under warranty. They were a bit vague about the warranty untill Porsche head office had approved It but i was told by service that it happens to lots of them with the light weight glass.

This is a standard recall now for any 992 fitted with the light weight glass option, so it should be sorted without any hesitation.

The glass on the GT3 and RS seems to be a service item... I had 5 screens replaced between 2 cars in the last 18 months

Silly question. But what does this all mean for the future, when the cars are 15 years old and out of warranty?

I’ve had this on my Touring, but think it got hit by a stone. I’ve had lots of fun with Autoglass trying to get it repaired via my insurance as the OPC quoted £2800!

Thanks! Car has done 15miles, nothing has touched it and it hasn’t been leant on it has literally just cracked on its own. Hopefully Porsche don’t see way out of it as the window itself is nearly £2500

Bit of a random thread bump, but the lightweight glass driver side window in my Dakar has cracked and Autoglass have no idea what the replacement part is. They have two options on their system if the glass has cracked rather than shattered (which I think points to it being laminated?). But the second option is under "water repellent" and then goes on to mention sound and lightweight, so I think it might be the correct option, but given the time of year and lead-time, I don't want them to come with the wrong stuff and then realise... or just fit the wrong stuff and not realise.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I would only use my OPC, for any glass replacement, in case of future further issues.
