I got a base 992, picked up new in December, 2023 model. I have done 2700 miles and noticed more than average vibration and groaning noise from the engine when driving slow in normal mode mainly between 1500 - 2000 revs. Is this normal. It does become less noticeable in sports mode. Any fellow 992 owners noticed this too? Is it normal thing in 992s. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Can't say I've noticed this Docmem.

Has it been like this from day one, or something developed over time?

Noticed since day 1. Not spoken to the dealer yet. Will update but was just checking the fellow owners

Interesting thread and touching wood I can't say I've noticed this as I'm quite sensitive to sounds and rattles etc. I do get an occasional vibration behind the dash though dependant on road surfaces and I know this is also a common fault on some 992's.

Seems like the problem you're talking about is more common on the base 992 Carrera's, and it might be due to the engine tune if it's rpm related, as the base might be sitting at lower revs in normal driving conditions compared to an S or GTS. But there is the odd C2S and Turbo S owner who has noticed the issue in the Rennlist thread as well, so don't know...

Apologies for resurrecting a zombie thread but thought I would add to the question in case there was a pattern.

New to me Targa 4S 992, 2022. 5,500 miles. Driving in Normal mode, 8th gear = horrible drone at 1500 rpm, so bad it starts a rattle from the back somewhere. Unfortunately this is 72mph on the motorway speed.

Switch to Sport mode, drops and holds 7th, rpm raises, no drone.

So I can get round it but I can't believe it's just a quirk.

Are you sure its the engine and not something resonating at them revs, exhaust shielding etc

Engine mounts. I had it on a brand new car. Porsche found not fix it. Was with them for 5 months. Car rejected.

I’ve noticed it ( GTS ), believe it’s because the pdk pushes into higher gear and engine labours till you either accelerate through it or as noted above switch to sport ( engine drops a couple of gears ) and drone disappears….
Could drive it on manual I suppose!

Mine is in with the OPC today - took the tech out who heard it too.

But it's been classified as 'they all do that, Sir'. Something about turbos spooling up.

Tempted to reject the car: it's a small thing but when it happens, it's like nails being dragged across a blackboard to my ears.

My GT3 Touring has this droning noise as well. When I switch to Sport it disappears.

If it was a Vauxhall Astra, everyone would be saying how c**p it was. As it's a Porsche, all is forgiven.
