GT3 Engine Oil Change - how many litres?
Discussion
I was reading an interesting discussion on Rennlist about the latest GT3 engine oil change procedure, showing quantity of oil required appears to be only about half the actual engine capacity ??

Just curious if anyone had noticed how much oil they're been charged for on their service invoice, and if there are any PH expert opinions on this, or first hand experiences ??

I had a change following break in and it is 4 litres, seems crazy doesn't it they kind of mix some new and old oil together with a resultant better mix than pre "oil change" .
I think with Cup motors they purge them to get all the old stuff out so they can get a proper change but it seems the road engines are happy with this protocol.

Very strange, sounds like the remaining 4 litres is stuck in the cam covers then ??I think with Cup motors they purge them to get all the old stuff out so they can get a proper change but it seems the road engines are happy with this protocol.
I know the Metzger engine has a scavenge pump on the end of each cam cover which pumps the oil back to the tank, the suction is at the bottom of the cam cover pretty much.
I'd presume the new engine also has pumps for this, but maybe the suction point is higher up leaving a couple of litres in the cam cover at all times ??
This might make sense with the new style non adjustable cam followers where failsafe lubrication is essential at all times, including start up following an oil change ??
I've never noticed how much oil my Metzger engined GT3 takes after an oil change compared to the engine capacity, might just check that next time.
My 996.1 GT3 takes just under 10 litres - its odd because thats more than the capacity per the manual but i've done oil changes twice a year for the last 20 odd years of ownership and it always takes this amount. I measure the oil taken out and put the same amount back in. Oil runs 2 bars from the top on the electronic guage when the oil is properly hot.
