My 992 C4S needs new front tyres (Pirelli P Zero 245/35 ZR20). From what I gather it's recommended/important to go with the Porsche variant (NA1) but currently my usual supplier of choice (Blackcircles) doesn't seem to be showing them. I suspect I'm naive expecting to be able to buy these from anywhere other than an OPC but worth asking. If you CAN get them elsewhere, any recommendations on supplier and possibly a decent fitter too? I'm near High Wycombe (M40).

Cheers

Try Camskill but you'll need someone to fit them.

Take a look at Asda Tyres

https://www.asdatyres.co.uk

Buy online and get them fitted by a tyre fitter of your choice. I usually go to Protyre

https://www.oponeo.co.uk/ also worth checking - astonishingly good customer service (they rang me back even when I hadn't asked them to..... to confirm the order payment and to get it into their delivery system ASAP)

ETA I'm too good to you

Oponeo 418 delivered
Camskill 419.70 delivered
ASDA 472.28 delivered

Would go to Asda for bananas, never mind tyres...

You do realise that supermarkets don't actually make anything, they just supply things that other people make, manufacturers like Pirelli. Asda don't make petrol either.

Looking at this the other way around, Marks & Spencer don't make bananas.

I normally buy from camskill, but they’ve got more expensive especially when delivery added.

I asked my local Indy tyre place and he matched their prices for N rated tyres and fitted for free. If you don’t ask.

If you're looking for Pirellis, then check if you have a local Pirelli Performance Centre. The one near me in Burton is an excellent facility and get many special cars in, Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren's etc... Had a few famous YouTuber cars in as well including Mr JWW and Seen Through Glass.

re Camskill - I'd noticed this, and also they don't anymore seem to be able to offer as good Vredestein deals.

That's excellent - I don't have any good local tyre places. In my youth (pre-internet) I used to travel all the way out to Micheldever for decent tyres and decent tracking.

If you're in HW then the obvious place to try is Adams & Page in Lincoln Road in Cressex. Ask for Stuart. They have been supplying tyres for my Porsche, Caterham & track cars for years.

Michele ever got bought by pro tyre and got expensive, same with tyre barn just outside Newbury. Brexit has cut off grey imports and bargains sadly….

Camskill told me (a few years ago) they were the sole UK importers for Vredestein, which is why those tyres were particularly 'cheap' from Camskill, as they could undercut everyone else. That specific differential seems to have gone, or they are simply not showing Vreds in many sizes.

I wonder if Camskill have lost that relationship?

I tried the crazy-pattern Sessantas on the Porsche - they were excellent. I had first-gen Vortis on the Subaru as well.

Apologies for thread-drift hehe

You don't actually go to Asda, you buy through the website and arrange for fitting at a tyre fitter of your choice.

Try Black Boots in Chesham they will try different sources for your tyres should there be issues of availability and take great care in the actual tyre fitment.

In the end I got them from Oponeo. Camskill don't accept PayPal or AMEX so decision made for me. Ordered Saturday, turned up Monday AM. Price was decent too (half the price of my X5 fronts!).

Now only ball-ache is finding someone to fit them. Understandably a lot of places won't fit only - Loss of margin but I guess also don't want to be on the hook if the tyres fail etc. I'll dig into finding someone a bit later this week - Just don't want the rims mangled. Wife uses a Lotus service guy in Maidenhead for her Elise so probably worth calling him although maybe his tyre machine won't take 20s :-D

Thanks to everyone for all the advice here. As usual, mint.

Just say you have a pair of tyres to swap over that came with the car, how much. Most will do it for £10 cash per tyre.

Do you put Asda petrol in your 911? Not recommended.

Surprised nobody has suggested checking the manufacturing dates of tyres purchased from the likes of Openeo ...

Chances are they’ll be fine, but I’d check them just to make sure they’re not 2,3,4 years old already ...

I believe nowadays everyone selling tyres has to state if 'old' - tyreleader certainly do.

As a point of fact, my tyres bought last week from Oponeo were datestamped 4322

My most recent tyres from Camskill, bought in Nov2021 were datestamped 1921, for reference.

Really? Why's that?
