Hi everyone,
I got my car a week ago and just want to check if my car is normal or not.
When driving in normal mode the drivetrain seems to vibrate quite a bit when the revs are low and makes quite an annoying droning sound.
Things improve in sport mode as it keeps the car in a lower gear and also the sport exhaust seems to drown it out a bit.
Is everyone else’s car the same?? If I’m town I would rather keep it in normal mode but the vibrations and drone really put me off.

Thanks in advance

no, that doesnt sound normal to me, although what sounds normal to one person, doesnt necessarily mean the same to another.
I dont seem to have any of those issues, but then I rarely drive in normal, once I am out of my estate sport comes on for the rest of the drive.

I do notice a different sound on tickover to my 991.2 GTS, more of a whistling sound, not sure if that is normal, but its only on tickover.

Not sure if it’s the same on a 992 but in normal mode (with auto start/stop enabled), my 718 4.0 GTS can sound as you describe on a light throttle and I believe it’s the car shutting down half the cylinders to help economy/emissions.

It’s usually a reminder that I have not yet switched off the auto start/stop!!

I thought you had it there, but it does the same thing without the stop/start engaged.
It’s weird but I can feel the vibration in the accelerator pedal also.
I’m taking a base carrera out next week so will see if that is the same or not

No, what you describe doesn’t sound normal. Driving a similar car back to back with your own should identify any difference.

Aside to my Targa GTS now on 6k Miles, I have driven another 3 992 GTS cars. None drive like the OP, though you do seem to get more low speed tyre noise inside the car depending on the road surface conditions.

OP, is your car brand new or a used example?

Ok, can you give a bit more details about your car, 2WD, AWD, Coupe, Cab or Targa?

What have your dealers said about it?

And can you be a bit more specific than drivetrain? As that can mean a number of different moving parts.

You mention vibration, are there any metallic noises suggesting this? Wondering if It could be an exhaust heat-shield or something?

It’s a AWD coupe, I popped into the dealers and a technician came for a 2 min drive and said he thought it was normal for 992’s?
It seems like a vibration on the drivetrain/ exhaust and when pulling away with low revs in 2nd or 3rd you feel it when pressing the gas and the car vibrates , sorry it’s hard to describe but seems like a really deep bass droan sound.
The more I know it’s there I notice it more and more often

So its related to the 4 GTS, can’t say I’ve noticed anything like that in the 2S or the 2GTS. Although you seem to hear far more inside the GTS versions.

I drive my GTS in ‘sport’ mode most of the time.

In ‘normal’ mode the car selects what, IMO, is too high a gear. This results in a less than smooth response when accelerating from low engine speeds, barely over tickover.

This is most noticeable around town.
