'afternoon all.

So, I had my windscreen replaced this afternoon - can't fault the fitter from a well known organisation. But, I do have a question about the parts that he was supplied to do the job...

1. Windscreen - porsche one so all good there

2. Rubber surround - looks different. He explained that the design had changed and this is now what is fitted as OEM now. Its clearly different to all the other rubber window surrounds.

3. There's a gap on the left side which doesn't seem right to me. But again, was told that this is the only way that it can be installed.

Had anyone else had a replacement screen recently and if so, has the wrong part been fitted to my car? Or, do I need to suck it up and just get annoyed with it.

Views welcome

new windscreen

new rubber and gap (poor pic, sorry)

He's stitched you up with that explanation. It's a Ford Transit trim (if not one that looks like one).

I replaced a 996 windscreen on Tuesday in Putney with all OE parts. It didn't look like that.

I had the front screen replaced by my Indy last year, North London. All looked exactly as the original so I'd get a second opinion and ask exactly which parts were used for your job.

Thanks for the responses. That's a bit disappointing isn't it.

Yes, it unfortunately is. The reason could just be laziness, or that 'the way the job is done' has moved away from 'getting right' to a more 'it will do' or, save any hassle.

You can see from the image that the profile the fitter has used is not suited to the application as the glass is recessed which needs the right trim to be fitted. The one he's used - by design - will hold the glass up to the ridge of the rebate. This will alter the set height of the windscreen. Where the trim is now twisted is a point where the glass is sitting closer to the pinchweld but the profile of the trim will not hold it, or itself, up.

The correct trim is a two part system.

It may well be that they didn't order the correct parts and the (existing) one on the car could not be re-used.
