Am contemplating swapping my GTI for a 911 (would be my second one - had a 76 Targa many years ago). This one would however be used more as when it was just me I could take it out and use the Freelander when I need to transport more than two of us.

This would likely be circa 2000 to 2006 in age with these being examples which are currently available close to me.

What's anyone's thoughts on any of those cars and also more generally using a 911 of that kind of vintage as essentially a daily driver - circa £6-8k miles a year.

I have owned a 2001 996 Carrera for 12 years, For a large part of that it was my daily driver, and it is currently my daily driver again.
The car seems to prefer being in regular use which is a positive, keeping on top of maintenance on a car of that age is important though if you want it to remain reliable.

Unless you really need an auto….they’re not the best ‘box for an involving, spirited drive.

they are duds. Appreciate you have a fixed budget and assume don't want to travel afar, but I wouldn't bother with those ones you listed. Total crapola.

The black 997 3.6 coupe you listed appears a nice example. It's a decent spec, the fully electric seats are nice as it allows you to adjust the seat base angle (which isn't possible on the standard manually height adjustable seats), plus it has heated seats and a multi function steering wheel. It'll ride well on the 18" wheels, but I think they do look better on 19s - you will easily find a set of used wheels if you really want.

I've got a 997 C4S tiptronic, and it's great for daily use. Go and have a drive of it, you'll soon know if it's for you.

Knowing why you’re saying that might be useful - is it simply that you don’t like the auto box?
