And is the 991.2 GT3 a better proposition as a DD? And will residual nosedive once miles start piling up (10k per annum)?

...Or is a 992 S a better proposition as a daily driver at the expense of the outright thrill at speed/track ?

Thanks

Yes it can....I would say depends on spec though. Whether you want a cage and buckets in a daily is your choice. A lot more comfort 991.1’s around than 991.2’s. I like how they ride on motiorway’s and they’re not too nice but definitely louder than a normal car.

Values take an initial nose dive with mileage but there’s actually a floor....a very high mileage GT3 was auctioned on Collecting Cars recently. That car’s discount to fair value for a normal mileage car was way less than it would have been in a normal 911.

If you’re thinking of running for three or four years I would avoid 991.1 as that’s when the factory engine warranty runs out...Porsche extended warranty is very good but who knows how much they will charge for the 991.1.

Thanks - so what would you say the floor is with the 991.2 with say 30k miles?

GT cars are very mileage sensitive they are looked upon as leggy if you do more than 3k per year so you will loose value and have difficulty selling if you intend to move the car on in the first 4 years unless you price it accordingly.

I had a 992S when my GT4 went in for a oil change and I was very impressed, loads of performance, great handling, overall far better than I expected it would make a great daily.

Sure not an issue, have used 997 GT2 CS in the past and this summer (a lot less so far due to not as much driving) a 997 RS - I assume if those work then a 991 should be a piece of cake.

Good luck with the search

It's not a daily, IMHO unless you had PDK and Comfort Seats. Then, maybe.

I only buy so called hard core cars, but the GT3 is not a daily for me, way too much car and noise and effort and of course cup tyres and you risk glazing pads also.

A lot of USA guys have fully dynomatted the full car to make them more friendly.

I guess if you bought a PDK, comfort and double dynomatted the car and changed tyres it would pass daily duty.

But while I loved my Cayman R as a fun daily I feel my GT3 is a bit too much. My GT4 was more daily use over this GT3.
Although if you spec the most expensive lights , at night they are amazing.

Take the black 997.1 GT3 CS with circa 168k miles that sold on Collecting Cars for £48,500 + fees, so £55k as an example.

There was plenty of interest as it was a well known and maintained car.

A 20k mile 997.1 GT3 Comfort is £75k.

So although higher mile cars are less common I think they hold value well.

Just to add - imo a good test re daily driving ability is if you can hear the radio when driving - I can listen to music in the 997 RS so that is perfectly fine (not sure why people think they are too noisy as neither the engine nor the road noise is particularly loud in the car) and I can’t really in the Scuderia when the flaps open plus road noise is elevated, so that can get a bit tedious on the autobahn or longer stints going cross country if you drive in a spirited manner (in city traffic it is also perfectly fine as there you are at low revs anyway). Of course these are not comparable to sitting in a 3-Serie BMW or the like, but I guess you knew that to start with (in exchange they are never dull....)

Not sure it's that comparable specifically. Also you need to get the maths right biggrin I thought I suffered badly from man maths! Car sold for 48,250 plus 6% which is 51,145 versus a low miles clubbie poss at 75, may be 80. So somewhere around 65% of the value. But that's an extreme example not really the same as 10k miles a year for 3 or 4 years.

But it's just a financial decision really. It'll just be worth less than a lower mile example. Simple. As for dailying it. As someone who dailyed a caterham, yes of course you can!

You can daily any thing if you wish, but it's not pleasant or safe to do so.
The novelty of 45mph max speed In the rain, the tram-liming, the hard sus and the fact you cannot hear the radio wears very thin after a while.
My other half hates most of my cars.

It would depend on what another car with average mileage is worth at the time you come to sell. I would say circa 15 to 20% less than another car with average mileage is probably about right

He's right though, and you think he's taliking rubbish, so what does that make you?

If you're into your sports cars, then you might think a 911 daily is great. For most people a 911 is a small hard riding sports car that performs as a daily as described at the top. It's all subjective of course.

My point was that suggesting that you can't go over 45 mph in the rain in a GT3 is quite frankly a load of absolute sxxt.

Except he said "it wears very thin after a while", not "you can't"
