What’s the general view on the 997.2 Turbo S? It does not often get a mention on here. There suddenly seems to be quite a few for sale now in the classifieds. Are they a good proposition as a weekend toy and a fairly depreciation proof purchase?

Bought one as I specifically wanted an S and the latest and greatest Tech (that and I drove my mates at Le Mans the year earlier)

Absolute weapon of a car.

100BHP available from a remap
650BHP with a remap and exhaust (9e with warranty!)

Such a capable car. Zero issues with mine.
Only selling my Cab as I've spent so much time abroad.

Zero regrets.

I have had a lot of Porsches, but always fancied a Turbo, and ordered a 997TS new in 2010, which I kept for three years.

However, I never really gelled with it, and I was ultimately rather disappointed. I found it a bit too clinical and lacking in soul. Fast yes, but not as rewarding or engaging as the best NA cars.

The engine noise is fairly benign which emphasises the lightly obtrusive road noise through the cabin on UK roads. Chris at CG set up the chassis, but it never felt anywhere near as nice as a really good 911 should.

Great car, I've got one and it's almost too capable - massively comfortable, but it can put a massive smile on your face when you do play with it down the right road though..

Launch control is insane..

I’ve had one for 4 years. Spectacular car. I upgraded to this from. 996 GT3. This is better in every respect. I absolutely adore it. With all the focus on the GT cars, this has to be one of the best kept secrets in the 911 lineup.

It’s a very capable car, however:
1) Although it goes like a bat out of hell, I find the suspension and steering soft vs GT cars

2) sounds like a Hoover

3) it is a true German engineering achievement, but it lacks a soul.

The only two big pluses for the Turbo s are the acceleration and the rear Seats.
