Hi folks,

Am in the process of buying a 964 project that has been started and needs finishing. The car seems sound and has had KW upgrades and a few other bits (RS esque interior, etc.) - but will need a few bits doing over the coming months / years - especially if my 8yr old has anything to do with it!

I’m having the car inspected by a local indie specialist near where I’m buying the car (who comes highly recommended) but wondered if anybody has any recommendations for servicing and bodywork in Herts?

I live near Welwyn Garden City and happy to drive a sensible distance - but in short, I’m looking to find somebody local ish who I can trust and not ‘start the meter’ when I walk through the door. I’m keen to do some things myself - but just the things that are within my capabilities (eg the inlaws have a full powder coating system - so I can rub down and get the fan repainted - but would probably want a specialist to remove and refit!)

Any thoughts and recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks,

Palfers

Service and upgrades I’s say RPM or JZM. RPM have got more expertise on the upgrade front I would say...they have their CSR package which you can have individual elements of done rathe than going the whole hog.

Yes Jaz, they look after both my 964s and are superb with these cars. Steve also can advise on any upgrade you wish to carry out.
Cheers

Yep Jaz.

Also Harpenden Classics and Performance for the bodywork. Does lots of work on Porsches, did excellent work on my 993. Speak to Kieran.

I'd go to Jaz, Steve and team have an amazing knowledge for all thinhs Porsche and race early 911s.

They used to look after my 3.2's and now do my turbo.

Their open day was agreat event with such an array of models old and new.

Would be interested to see your 964.

Maybe ask each how many technicians they employ.

It’s on websites too if you check the about us pages.

More revealing to ask the staff background / experience.

Fair point, but go and talk to them.

I recommend Jaz as a long standing customer from when they were in Wembley but have now moved to St.Albans.

It's also very local to Welwyn Garden City down the A414.

I've been using RPM for over 12 years including when I had a 964. They have a lot of experience of upgrading/restomods so worth discussing with them. Check out their website where you can see some of their work:

The lime green car is stunning in the flesh, but money was no object on that one.

No right or wrongs we're lucky to have a number of well respected Porsxhe Indies (Jaz, JZM, RPM) all within a relatively small distance.

Folks,

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. I think as per one post, popping over for a coffee and a chat to see who ‘clicks’ best is a plan.

Now the get the car - fingers crossed all is straight and there are no stories underneath!

Thanks again,

Palfers

Another for JAZ. 100% happy with Steve Winter.

Worth also contacting Angus Archer. http://www.archermotorsportservices.co.uk/index.ph... - friend and very local to you.

Another for Steve and the guys at Jaz.
Did all the mechanical and fitting of interior on my modded 964. Can arrange bodywork as necessary.

Steve has been a long time extoller of the virtues of the 964, since way before everyone else woke up to them. Consequently knows and looks after them exceptionally well, while passing on his knowledge and passion to those that work with him.

As others have said, check them (all) out and get your own feel for them.

Porschacare in Bramfield. Don't be put off by the website. He's meticulous and knows his way around 911s. Ask him about his personal 964. Check out his facebook page for some of the cars he looks after.

For bodywork I recently used Daytona Coachworx in Stevenage. Matt sends all his cars there. Again, check out their facebook page for examples of work.
