I love the look of both and my last was a 996 Turbo. Given both cars will outperform my last one the performance is no longer the deciding factor. Looks and future values are the more prevalent points.

So, may I ask the collective what your thought are. In my mind nothing could beat the purpose of a Turbo, the air scoops make the 911 for me. But the new Targa looks stunning and a potential future classic.

I could have half solved this by keeping my last Turbo (which has magically doubled in value since I sold it!)

Thanks, in advance, for your feedback.

There is a thread on a Targa running atm, and one of the owners on their has had multiple Turbos and now Targas - so he will have pretty relevant input (I think it is APOLO from memory - look for orange targa pic)

Much depends what you want out of the car in terms of enjoyment of absolute performance - the halfway house is of course the Turbo cab.

Having spent a few weeks, and 2k miles, with a 991.2 C2S the 3.0T engine narrows that gap between the models - maybe not the choice of purists, but the fact its no longer a NA engine would give the Targa the benefit of noticeably more torque. I found myself questioning whether or not I'd need a Turbo if I was to move on from my current 997 Turbo S - I'd possibly consider a GTS..

Best bet is drive both and decide.

I run a targa 4 and a GT4.

Targa 4 is plenty fast enough for the road. Like c4s991.1 fast. Engine is turbo and sounds pretty good in sport mode especially. Yes, there’s a little turbo whistle.
- and the car looks stunning imho.

For comparison sake - Sure - the GT4 turns better but I can’t get within 75%of the cars cornering ability without more tuition. Which is why I don’t need a Gt3. Sometimes I wonder if the targa is enough for me. I’m tracking the GT4 next week so that will probably put her back in the minds eye.

Turbos look awesome too. But ain’t targa. A gts targa - yes. Best of all worlds imho.

Hi Julian hope you well. Thought you'd be at the wedding today mate. Too busy? smile

re values - much depends how much you want to pay. A £100-£110k 991.1 Turbo S over a year or two probably isn't going to lose much whereas a £110k+ 991.2 Targa will. A Turbo S at £150k will lose £20k+ in a year. If you can bring yourself to part with £125-130k I would look at a 991.2 Turbo S - these are the daddy and values will stay above £100k for the next 3 years. £115k will just about get you into a 991.2 Turbo non-S. The base Turbo is a great car again and quite commonly spec'd in cabriolet. If you've got the extra £ then deffo go S - comes with a bit more kit as well like £6.5k PCCBs (ceramic brakes).

Targa - lovely lovely looking b it of kit. I sat in a Targa 4S yesterday and could easily of swapped it for the GT3! I'd deffo want the generation 2 car with the 3.0 turbo engine in S flavour - it's quite a heavy car so not sure you'd find the old 3.8 a bit lacking. My pic would be a 991.2 GTS Targa - not cheap but a great looking car and surprisingly quick - in PDK it'd be quicker than your old 996.

Whichever you choose make sure it's the right spec and colour. Pick a dud colour and interior and you'll lose a bit more lolly.

Hi mate, very well thanks. I trust the same with you. Just driving back actually, decided to make an exit when Camilla was getting a bit to boozy (as usual). biggrin

I'll take your advice and report back. GTS with PDK Targa sound like the job. I just can't get my head around a 911 without the air scoops on either side. Silly, I know. I've just never had one without and it feels like something is missing. I do love the look of the Targa though. Currently trying hard not to be stupid and get both!!!

I'm the same mate, once Camilla starts flashing her boobs I'm outa there...

Targa (especially in GTS flavour) is the best looking 991. I'm slightly the opposite whereas I prefer the body without the air scoops. Can't beat the look of the turbo from the rear though. It's wide, very wide. You might of noticed the Miami blue Targa (I'm pretty sure it's a GTS) locally to us? Looks great - saw it again today. Porsche side decals and black wheels... yum yum

It's not for sale mate - belongs to a chap (must be local) because seen it 3 or 4 times recently either driving through Bingham or past your way. There's a Miami Blue Targa GTS for sale at Porsche Cardiff. It's a manual, not PDK. Great colour though
