So the claimed maximum speed of the 991.2 GT3 is 198 mph. Apparently the Porsche test drivers claimed the 911R was good for 330kph and even 340kph with a tail wind. The official max speed is 323kph (194mph). I note the new Touring is 196mph. So the question is what is the true maximum speed of a manual 991.2 GT3 as I would imagine it's at least as fast as the R? And anyone brave enough to try?

there is a video on YT of some brave soul going north of 200 in a .1 GT3

Thats speedo indicated from memory

if its anything like mine, it only reads 1mph over actual (verified at speeds from 20mph up to 180mph +)

Well, my 991RS read 323kmh on the digital display, and it may have gone faster had the road and traffic been kinder.
My yet to be built Touring will also be tested to its, or my maximum...

What the actual speed versus the displayed speed is I don't know, but, I too have heard the Porsche test drivers claimed that the 911R was capable of over 200mph genuine.

Im looking forward to finding out myself.
The biggest problem I find is getting an autobahn straight and long enough to feel comfortable doing it....

I went to a VMAX event back in 2007 in my 997 GT3 Gen 1. I must have done a dozen runs or so - between the laser beams I managed to get 186mph indicated on the speedo and the official laser reading at the event was 179mph so around 7mph over read on my speedo.

Given the car was still pulling hard(ish) by the time I got to the timing beams I would imagine low to mid 190's is definitely achievable - the gearing in the car would allow speeds in excess of 200mph - if you can find an unrestricted amount of road slightly downhill and no traffic I could imagine 200mph is definitely achievable.

That being said a 991.2 GT3 is definitely a 190mph car all day long and given the right circumstances and piece of road long enough I could see 200mph as certainly possible.*

  • If driven upon a legal piece of road, of course. smile

Also the GT3 makes 20bhp more at top seed due to the forced air ducts over a R or touring so should net a faster top speed.

I think the Touring's 2mph slower top speed compared to the standard GT3's 190mph is down to the higher drag of the pop-up spoiler..I also seem to remember that the Touring also has some form of a high speed ram-air effect in front of the spoiler although i'm not 100% on this..

I think someone needs to bite the bullet and take theirs to the maximum to find out rather than postulating about it here.

Don't think theirs any ram-air effect with the Touring due to it not having the twin air intakes. I thought this was the reason for the 2 mph deficit?

Can you recommend any suitable stretches of autobahn then where this is safely achievable?

Nope.
