Why did I choose the 911 Carrera T ?

I’ve been waiting for my 911 since my dad took me out in a friends’ 1973 Targa when I was 7 years old. Having dreamt of 4s, GTS, GT3’s etc, I felt the only ‘affordable’ one was the base Carrera but strived for a little more. When I saw the T launch it seemed to hit the spot, based on the base Carrera but with elements of the GT cars, I was fully sold.

What Equipment did I spec and why ?

Specifying a 911 is a work of art, and can be very personal, no car I know of has so much emphasis on little details. When was stitching and painting bits so important ?

Exterior Colour
I eventually went for GT Silver Metallic, a very safe colour for a 50 yr old. I toyed with Lava Orange and Racing Yellow for a long time but felt they were colours, although massively suited to the T, that I may regret in 2-3 Years.

Interior Colour
Black leather interior in combination with Carrera T interior package, with contrasting colour of Racing Yellow.
The T package was a must as is unique to this car. The yellow detail/stitching linked me to my original love of the Racing yellow exterior.

Exterior
Electric slide/tilt glass sunroof was chosen as I just love the black roof with the 911. I’m not even a sunroof fan generally and I’m fully aware it adds weight in all the wrong places.
Privacy glass (rear side windows and rear window) for me tied in completely with the black roof so purely cosmetic.
I went for the SportDesign front apron just to add a bit of aggression to the front. A difficult one as the T front also looks good.
The Fuel filler cap with Aluminium look finish is just a little detail that will make me smile every 200 miles when I fill up smile
Transmission / Chassis
I went for the 7-speed manual transmission. Again a must for me on the T, the promised short ratios should bring the best out of the base motor.
The Front axle lift system may not be necessary but the farm track to my garage has a steep slope and bringing home a new car that I couldn’t get home was not an option in my book
Rear-axle steering is not something I’m sure I’ll notice but I just went for it as not available on base Carreras. Porsche’s marketing at it’s best I think.
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes were initially chosen just because I love the yellow callipers with the yellow interior. A big ticket item but you only live once and hopefully a bit longer with good brakes !
Chrono Package including Porsche Track Precision app just looks good on the dash so was ticked without much thought.

Wheels
20-inch Carrera S wheels painted in Titanium Grey (high-gloss) seemed to match in with the grey mirrors, badges etc so totally cosmetic.

Interior
Cruise control just because it’s hard to live without in the 21st century.
Speed limit display has its been in my last 2 cars, so why not ?
Full bucket seats are another big ticket item but, for me, just go with this car. I’m also secretly hoping they will drive me to shed a few pounds.
The smoking package is a small item that just finishes the centre console better. The smoking bit is irrelevant as I have no bad habits.
Instrument dials in Racing Yellow are a brave choice for conservative me, but keep with my yellow theme. I also added the Sport Chrono stopwatch in Racing Yellow.

Interior Leather/Alcantara
I saw the ‘Dashboard trim package in leather in a friends GT3 and, I must say, it adds a certain ambience and feel as does the GT Sport steering wheel and gear lever in Alcantara

BOSE® Surround Sound-System
Having had great sound systems in my last few cars, I didn’t want to scrimp on this one. I may spend all my time listening to the standard Sports Exhaust but when music beckons, it needs to sound good.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including online navigation is another weight addition, although not sure how much, however, I just thought if the wife borrows the car, I would like for her not to get lost and bring our 911 home safely.

That’s all folks, I’d love to hear your stories.

Sounds like a lovely spec, I love GT silver too, especially with the PCCB brakes.

I would love to spec a new 911, I have specced one SO many times, just never had the opportunity to buy the one I want biggrin

I am lucky in the fact that my current car is in exactly the same spec as I would have ordered it. As a bonus it was cheaper than buying it new! A scenario I fear may never be repeated on GT cars again frown

Congratulations again on your purchase, the 911 T sounds like it will be a wonderful package.

Unfortunately it ended up at £108k but I’m a lover, not a speculator. Full spec on porsche code link below:

I could have gone GTS and that was a dilemma, but the big tickets are PCCB’s Buckets and RAS which would have a similar affect on a GTS price thus I’d be at £10k more again. Also I quite like the drive of the 370hp motor plus the wife thinks I’ve got a £85k car !!!

presumably around £106,000

if OP dreamt of "4s, GTS, GT3’s etc" then he could have easily got a new GTS/4s within this budget and wasn't *too* far off a used 991 GT3

GT silver with the yellow will look great. I'm ashamed to say I've chosen it 3 times before.
I'll have to choose differently this time!
As with any buy there are a multitude of different cars/specs at a similar price. Spec it as you want - if you're spending 100k, at least with a new car you can have it exactly as you want- important IMHO at this level!
"I get it", for some bizarre reason I'd prefer a T over a GTS.
Ps reading the rennlist review PCCBs may have merit regardless of the colour!
Enjoy!

Cheers, my initial gut feeling was that I preferred the T to the GTS and was sucked in a bit with the price to start with. Once I’d specced it up I then went back through GTS and others as I was suddenly in a different price and tbh the T still floated my boat

Just over £106k so you’re correct, however I wanted new and the T specced to where I got it appealed more than the equiv priced GTS etc

I'd take a T over GTS too. For me, Porsche completely ruined the GTS by making the RWD model wide body only.

Yeah I think I prefer the "narrow" body, the clean simple form is appealing.
Having said that I'd quite happily put up with the wider look of the touring!
