Hello,

Does anyone know the % or if the factory option for privacy glass on the rear windows is light or medium smoked film for the 991 Carrera?

The online config does not give any information.

Thank you,

Phil

Not sure if there is a legal limit for the rear tints, but there is for the front side windows and screens which - 25%.

Apparently there is also a legal limit for sunglasses being worn whilst driving - although a lot of people don't known that.

Also, be aware that 'privacy glass' is a 'marmite' option and can have a negative impact on re-sale, especially on Porsches in the UK.

Porsche owners are a funny lot. They don’t really go for the drug dealer look in the UK.

I am guessing the factory option is light smoked, which looks good on certain colours.

Yup. True. I hate "privacy glass" / window tints, and I won't buy a car with it (unless it can be readily removed). I nearly killed some bloke who walked behind me while I was reversing out of a parking space in a rental with tints. Nightmare. And it looks st. No designer wants his cars glass house to look half-arsed.

You can buy zero % 'tints' with UV protection to prevent heat ingress. I have that on the family car.

Subjective I realise but I don't think my UK car looks as bad as some believe/feel. I quite like it. Some won't.

True for me. I'd accept a tinted rear screen but would refuse tinted rear side windows.

That striped look, with the front side window clear and the rear side window tinted, hurts my eyes. wobble

What a sensitive lot we are! 😉
Personally I prefer it if everyone can’t look in to see what i’ve got on the back seats. There are enough thieving little toerags around without putting your possessions on open view to them!

Personal choice imho, I speced it and like it, if others don’t that’s also ok.

In a GT3 cs you can see precious little out of the back window with the cage and wing blocking the view, add to that no parking sensors...proceed with caution!

Better than the old GT3 with no camera option.
