I feel like a complete Bell-End.
I've had my 996 turbo for 7 years and have been told at this service that BOTH turbos have seize.
I hadn't even noticed, it was still going like a scalded cat, but I did notice that I no longer heard the dump valves.
The car is a keeper, but in excess of £5k for replacement Porsche parts could change all that in a heartbeat.
So I need either refurbished, used, or another brand of Turbos altogether.
I've seen new K16 ones for a "slightly" less ruinous price.
Has anyone experience of these.
There is also the option of putting in bigger GT3 one, but there may be software issues with that?
X50's?
Any advise from fellow sufferers most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

FVD Level 3 kit with K24 Turbos, unfortunately slightly more ruinous financially i'm afraid, but after you've done it your 996 Turbo will be a keeper for sure!
Just an awesome toy with this tuning package.

Turbos seized? If so the car would not go like a scalded cat.

I think you need to find another place to have your car serviced.

BTW, my 2003 996 Turbo has 160K miles and the turbos are just fine. The fuel pump quit a few weeks back and just yesterday it looks like the alternator (actually probably the voltage regulator part not the entire alternator) is dying.

Wastegates seized; the turbo will continue to boost - likely higher than 'normal' then blow open the wastegate on the affected unit. It will continue to boost but constantly bleeding off pressure - common and, most don't show any ill effects - most likely felt quicker! Generally once the 'gate blows open theres an additional tinkling noise on idle; where the valve 'just' rests on its seat and rattles on its support.

Labour for R&R can be expensive as the engine will likely have to come out to remove the service lines (they seize in) but turbo companies can refurb the originals - parts are readily available; unlike some manufacturers units.

This. Get them refurbished if they actually need it.
