Having now had my 7 GTS for a good few months and done 1500 miles or so, it seems that despite the broadly similar torque outputs of the engines (in fact the GTS is slightly gruntier), it doesn't seem to be nearly as lively at the back as my old 7.1 GT3 - you have to be trying really hard to get the PSM light on/move it about, whereas I seem to remember it being a lot easier in the GT3.

Both are manual, RWD, coupe, with same rear tyre sizes, similar gear ratios etc etc

Anyone else found the same? any ideas why? Or am I just becoming more of a wetty as I get older and am not trying hard enough?!

Guess so, I can't remember what tyres I had on the GT3, but one imagines that if they're optimised more for track that their designed operating temp range may be smaller (and hotter) than what I have on my GTS i.e. GT3 tyres are stickier when hot, but also slidier when cold (or at least the sort of temps you see in the road)

Could well be the PSM....no idea if it's calibrated differently but wouldn't surprise me. I had my 997 GTS on a PCGB day last year....PEC instructor told me that Sport mode allows 7 deg more slip before it kicks in on the GTS.

Softer spring rates, less compression in the dampers, softer anti roll bar settings, more compliance in the control arms (and their bushings) all makes for a compliant set up that'll grip longer in less than ideal conditions (i.e. our poorly maintained road surfaces)
GT3 superb on track and on billiard smooth road surfaces (and where high speed direction changes require stiffer ARB's, dampers, springs and bushings).

As has been said on here previously, the majority of drivers would be quicker in an X50 996 Turbo than a 996 GT2 on give and take roads. Compliance (and in the Turbo's case 4WD) is king.
