Wise move??? 991.1 reliability as everyday car
Discussion
I wonder if anyone could shed any light If buying a 2013 991.1 Carerra 3.4 PDK as an everyday car would be a wise or stupid idea?
I do a decent mileage about 18 to 25k per year and know someone who is selling theirs and as I am really bored of my 6series do quite fancy it, it currently has 40k miles on the clock and as I am buying it privately it has no warranty, so can you advise;
What type of things go wrong?
How expensive is servicing?
What should I look out for?
I tend to keep cars I like for a good time so I would intend to run this up past 100k towards 150k miles.
I know the current owner and she has had it for two years and it was bought from a main dealer as an approved used, she has had no issues with it in her time but she only does a low mileage so it might need waking up a bit, which of course I would be happy to do.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

I'm sure there will be someone to give you a more profound answer than me soon, but just let me tell you:
do it!

Don't worry too much, it is a relatively new car with an overall very good reliability.
There has been a thread about someones red, basic C2 991.1 who has done over 100k miles in something like 4 years.
ETA
found it! 100,000 mile 991?
do it!

Agree! Do it, dont wait.
i used my 997.2 as a daily driver for 2 years rain or shine covering 18 - 20,000 miles per year. Its now doing about 10,000 per year.
I did get a Porsche warranty and it pretty much paid for itself with a few minor things going wrong.
Just plan for tyres to wear frequently and front brakes every 40K miles or so with the mileage you're planning.

Plus one, I have a 997.2 with 80k on the clock, I'm doing about 15k a year and love it.i used my 997.2 as a daily driver for 2 years rain or shine covering 18 - 20,000 miles per year. Its now doing about 10,000 per year.

I wouldn't buy one of those as a weekend car, so definitely daily driver imo - definitely do it, as pointed out do get the warranty though just in case (would do that on any car though, not Porsche specific - have not read anything bad about the 991) as it is quite good value for money imo
:-) had the same thought myself last year and did it.
Now own a 991.1 and use it about half the week. So far so good.
Third Porsche I've owned (two Boxster S's, a merc's and RR inbetween and now 991.1 PDK)
All cars have faults from time to time - old and new - we all live with that.
One thing I noticed about my earlier Boxster's was that they really don't like not being used - brake discs particularly corrode fast - and variocam doesn't like sitting around much either - so drive once a week is an absolute must. More tends to go wrong if you don't drive them actually - which is kind of counter-intuitive - but true.
20-25k miles a year that you mention is going to dent your resale value pretty fast though as that's pretty far above average. But it will do it - and if you aren't worried about that then it'll work fine. Will it be perfect always? probably not - but then nothing else is either.
Go for it!
