I've been doing a few Autosolos this year and enjoyed them a lot - and have slowly got a bit quicker. I think it's time to start tweaking the car to get a bit more from the handling. The built-in understeer is getting tiresome ! Current setup:

'99 C2 with M030
Completely stock alignment AFAIK
Front tyres are old and knackered Falkens (225/40/18) - these will be changed !
Rear tyres are fairly new Contis (265/35/18)

Clearly the old/new mix of tyres is not helping, but that can be fixed quite quickly.

What should I do in terms of geometry ? As much -ve camber as I can dial in on the front with a smidge of toe-out ?

Should I consider getting a spare set of wheels (not a bad idea anyway), in Boxster fitment for the slightly narrower rears and drop to 245 ?

Stiffer rear roll bar ? Disconnect the front ?

I'm mainly after simple/cheap tweaks right now, to try out at the next event on 7th Oct.

It's like an autotest, but slightly faster and more open. And without any forward/reverse changes. Quite low speed - I didn't get out of first gear yesterday, but there were a few spots where I'd hit the limiter briefly before braking for the next turn. I realise a 911 is not ideal for this kind of event smile Well set up MX5s tend to do very well, and any kind of caterfield-alike. Sharp turn-in is important.

Next year I'd like to try sprints. I'm building up slowly.

After fitting new inner & outer track rods and front ARB bushes last week (which seems to have cured the squeaking-when-hot issue that I've had for almost six years - yay!!) I had to check the tracking and I have 0.2' total toe out at the front and 0.4' total toe in at the rear.

Does this make sense for keeping the car "agile" ? Or do I need more ?

Are you allowed to change the tyre sizes?

If so, try wider fronts and narrower rears. I've gone up 20mm on the front and down 30mm on the rear myself; makes for a much more pointy car.

Another thing: reduced offsets on wheels/spacers? Same as above, really.

Wider stickier fronts, more camber, renew bushing etc.

Do of course remember that if you make it very pointy on AutoSolo it will not magically revert to normal road manners on the way home.. so don't go too overboard... smile
