Never used one before so can anyone recommend which ctek charger to buy for the aforementioned cars? Mxs 3.8 or 5 for example. Just want to make sure I'm not going to damage any electrics!

Used Ctek for years and got a couple of MXS 5.0 now. Great things

OPC part number 95504490055 £76.50 including VAT.

Apparantly you can get them on Amazon for less but as there is no model number on the OPC ones so wasn't convinced it was the same.

Plugs into cig lighter and works well.

Cheers for the info. Was just wondering if I should buy a 3.8 or a 5. I think think Porsche have before recommended the 3.8 but perhaps as the 5 is a new model?

Porsche badge Ctek. The 5 charges at 5 Amps not surprisingly i.e. bit faster but you are just likely to leave it to recondition the battery. Another difference i believe is that the 5 has temperature compensation so adjusts the charging depending on ambient temp. I had a 3.8 and now 5.0 and batteries have lasted well. Have used on 964, 996, boxster and 997 RS with and without OEM batteries.

Yeah, I prefer that way of connecting them too

Great thanks for the response all. So is the best way to do this via the cigar lighter socket as both cars have smokers pack. I'm not sure that they're constantly live though?

Pretty sure they are live in modern cars so you can use the lighter socket. Need to go back to 964 days for this not to work smile

The MSX 5.0 comes with an eyelet connector, but worth getting a second one for the GT3 seeing as they are so cheap smile

Yes constantly live.

I much prefer using the cig socket to charge as no faffing around removing the bulkhead covers and fittings and attaching croc clips etc every time you need to charge.

no need you fit the "eyelet connector" and then plug it in when you want, the correct way and the Porsche way ;-)

If you get the eyelet connector be sure to read the third post in this thread before you start and save yourself a load of hassle. I wish I had rolleyes

Best of both worlds - I use a CTEK 5 on my 991 RS :

Open armrest
Plug in via ciggy lighter
Close armrest
Attach one of these :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Automotive/CTEK-56-304-...

Secure in drivers door rubber between back of drivers window / rear quarter window - shut door (no issue with rubber compression)

Charge whenever you like - when driving store on floor behind drivers seat - simple smile

Works a treat

No problem - just re reading this : when I say "secure" in drivers door rubber - what I actually mean is hold the end of the cable against the rear quarter window whilst poking it out of the drivers door - move your fingers back and gently slam the drivers door shut - its that type of secure, rather than say, a high tech blue tac type of method smile
