I've never put paint protection film on a porsche before - or any car - but I'm wondering whether I should do it to protect the pts paint as it might not be so easy just to respray the bumper if it gets chipped.
Any views on whether that is a sensible use of £2k or so (once paint is corrected etc)? If so, should I just do bumper, bonnet, front wings, mirrors, or should I venture into side skirts/front rocker panels, or should I just open my wallet and do the lot?
Finally, I have read mixed views about the application of products on top of the PPF too - would appreciate people's views.

Much appreciated, thanks.

Firstly congrats on the car, what colour did you get?

I took delivery of a PTS car last year, a Maritime Blue RS and I took the decision to fully protect the car after paint correction. I live in Dubai so our options are perhaps limited as to what products we use and who can apply them but the place I used did apply additional coatings on top of the film to enhance the shine.

Thanks Hamid, maritime blue sounds beautiful! Great colour. I'm going old school - oak green. Any regrets re the film?

I had PPF put on my white 987 Spyder back in 2010 and been very happy with it. It is only now just beginning to discolour. I only had front valance, wing mirrors, door sills and area in front of rear air intakes covered and that seems to have been sufficient. None of the areas not covered have picked up any stone chips. Though my car is a hi-day/weekend car which has obly just covered 16 K. One area which I will have covered next time though is the area behind rear wheels as this has picked up a lot of "gravel rash"

Congrats on your new car, had mine 4 months now, and just hit 4.5k Miles. As an overall package I would say the 991.2 Targa 4 GTS is about the best road driving 911 I have ever owned.

When it comes to PPF on road cars, in my experience I go the front bumper, bonnet, Mirrors, lights. Along with a one piece that goes along the sill and covers the OEM stone guard.

I have used Paintshield over at Peterborough on all my cars over the past 8-9 Years. Never had a single problem apart from when I caught one edge with a high power jet wash. Even that was fixed FOC.

Thanks very much everyone. Good advice. I will go for it in the chip prone areas but be careful when washing. Luckily we have a very good detailer not too far away who has done some v nice film installations that I've seen.

I had the 3M film on my RS, but on reflection I think I'd rather cope with stone chips and then respray after 3 years. The film was a different finish to the paint and the edges always caught the polish and eventually went yellow.

Pics of the targa would be good! Mine gets built next month, very exciting!!

So , after seeing a 15" plate Targa for sale with 13k miles... your gts is even lower.

The bumper will chip badly (for me). I can't stand road rash.
The rear wheel arches will too.

And the roll bar was damaged. Something like a stone must have got in between the roof and bar upon closing.

That said, the 5k targa I just bought only has a business bonnet chip.

Perhaps (obviously) depends how/where you'll drive it.

So for me, I'm (coincidentally) ppfing my targa this week ...

Front bumper
Side Inc rear arches (that's from front wheel to rear of car)
And a custom piece for the roll bar

Above by Ultimate Shine in Stirling Scotland. (They did my black gt4 and it's great).

Let me know if you'd like pics etc.
