I have a 997.1, and want to put mesh in the front bumper to prevent damage to the rads.

Does anyone sell these, or do people just make their own, please? And how do they attach?

Also, I presume you need a ramp to fit them?

Take them to a local bodyshop to whip the front bumper off and fit them

Zunsport - don't go anywhere else

Easy to attach, slot straight in, just put on my 7GTS

Can you do it yourself, or is it a bodywork off, up on jacks etc?

Zunsport are fine if you like the way they look. If you want something more subtle, make your own using generic mesh. Not difficult, just takes time and patience. Can be done from the front without removing anything.

I did my own. Total cost was around £40 including a new set of tin snips.

Bought some mesh from B&Q, ordered some Plastidip from amazon, watched a load of you tube vids and then just whent at it. Was able to install without removing the bumper. Was fiddly but not especially hard. Used the zip tie method, which sounds terrible but you really cant see them.

Don't like the Zunsport ones, they are too bulky and obvious and I didnt like the idea of spending £300 when the job looked so easy

Mine are fitted behind the grills and most of the time you cant actually see them as the car is black and the grills are painted black.

I've also read that the Zunsport grilles often damage the car when removed.

Very pleased with my Zunsport grilles on my GTS, quality product cost less than £200, fitted in 15 mins

As someone's said, you can do it for a fraction of the cost of ready-made grilles if you're good with a spanner - well, Torx Driver - really. If you want a proper result, then the only way is to get the bumper off, plus you can have a good old clean while you're in there. I did my Gen 1 997 recently, using the excellent guide at Pelican Parts. Car up on stands, both front wheels removed. (Removing the lower wheel arch liner as it really helps with access)

I got the work done in a morning, including cutting my own template to then snip out the grilles for each side.
(Just remember to have a couple of old sheets or blanket to hand to rest the bumper on - I got mine off and on by meself, but if you've got the use of an extra pair of hands, use 'em; Oh, and watch the little clips you have to pull out from under each headlight, as you'll catch your hand on sharpish metal edges if you're not careful)

I got a nice looking kit from Rennline in the US, but I know people like the Zunsport kit too.

Bumper off job, and it took me a day (because I took my time and didn't want to **** anything up!), but I agree that getting your local Indy to do it for you might be preferable!

I fitted Zunsport grills to me 981 S and crud still collected at the bottom of the radiators/condensors that I wanted to clean out to prevent it holding moisture and rotting them.

Removing the grills dammaged the plastic where the spring clips hold them on.

Different fittment for different cars, but on a 981 S PDK with parking sensors the fittment was a bit flaky and a pain in the ass to remove. They ended up in the skip.

Probably easier to remove the bumper instead! On my GTS there's no way I'm leaving the HUGE gaping holes in the standard bumper there, it'll only take a few flicked up stones to damage the condensors.

I chopped it in for a GT4 that comes with mesh.

Not much help now but maybe for others...
You only had to put some masking tape on the paintwork where the clips are to fit / remove without damage
Petulant throwing them in a skip too I got £120 for mine on eBay after I had used them for 4 years!
