anyone overtake you on the autobahn?

There's usually a modified RS6 behind you at that speed his flashing lights to pass, or some businessman going to work in his McLaren F1

The official maximum speed in kph is 306 (1 over the Turbo, yes!). I guess the displayed 320 means real 305 or so. As said, I could have pushed further (to real 200mph). Unfortunately I did not have my GPS device turned on (although I had it with me in the car). Next time.

And, yes, half an hour before, there was an RS 6 behind me. Not flashing but seriously pushing. But he had to quit at 280kph or so. Rest assured, nobody passed me that morning

Bet the turbo would have maxed out quicker than you though. It takes a long time to catch someone up at 1kph!

biglaugh

Edited to add: great pic beer

Tremendous! I love a good high speed run in the fatherland.

I too have managed to evade an indicated 200. Frustrating.

In my F12 M6, back in the early days before aftermarket tuners could fully remove the limiter, I had the BMW Drivers pack fitted (by BMW in Aachen as the miserable UK dealers wouldn't do it). I then drove across Germany to Berlin and regularly had it on it's new limiter at an indicated 196mph. To this day I have not driven anything that's so accelerative above 150mph....

...not even my recent (gen 2) R8 V10+, a bonafide 200+ car which lower down the speed spectrum would have destroyed the big BMW. I got the R8 up to an annoying 199 but traffic got in the way after that (theres frustratingly few chances to go this quick during the day, especially down western Germany). It was comfortably shooting through 200 though, but unbelievably it was still not as accelerative at that speed as my M6 was.

Funnily enough my last autobahn trip in my 996tt I was accompanied by my mate in his R8 GT which he'd hoped to max-out. Sadly, due to wet conditions our recce up to Koln and back proved to us it was inadmissible and any speed up near 150mph was generating a literal wall of spray that was unsafe to follow.

We retired back to the Nurburgring and, although he was wary of taking his car out (he had been previously in his V8 R8) I persuaded him to follow for a couple of TF laps. It was not busy and I reasoned it was actually safer than the road trip we'd just made. He enjoyed it.

So neither of us has yet experienced respective vmax runs! Best I got that trip was an indicated 165mph under the bridge on the DN17 event the next day.

Sure, it's June in fine weather on the Continent. You get 6 weeks of it most summers in France, starting nowish or more usually mid June, Le Mans weekend. I have seen me with an alternator in bits on the bench at 11pm, no shirt on, when I absent mindedly wiped my grubby hand on my chest it came away wet.

Because we use 24h clock displays.. Would have said "19:48" But what's the difference for the story anyway?
