997.1 GT3 whine
Discussion
Hi fellow pistonheaders.
Recently I've started to notice a slight whine coming from behind only when in gear and around 2-3k revs after that the engine/exhaust take over the noise levels. when I coast in neutral it disappears gradually. It almost sounds like a very faint belt slipping. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I live in Surbiton does anyone else live around here with a gt3 so we could compare? I might just be being a bit pedantic, and maybe it's always made the noise but I don't drive the car regularly as I don't keep it in Surbiton often.

A worn differential would make a whining noise, and is quiet enough to be drowned out by higher engine/road noise as you describe.Recently I've started to notice a slight whine coming from behind only when in gear and around 2-3k revs after that the engine/exhaust take over the noise levels. when I coast in neutral it disappears gradually. A reputable specialist should be able to road test it and diagnose the fault fairly easily.
