Hello,

My 996 Turbo has a rear spoiler fault. The rear spoiler is rising partially at one side and therefore looks squint. Any ideas?

Cheers

Pump, rams or, less likely, just micro switches.

As per contributions above, a well known problem on the 996 & 7, and a few minutes on google will explain your options (short/mid term fix v's long term replacement) . As an aside, my Uncle has just replaced his with the Rennkit, and is very happy (given he had it shipped over from the US). I keep an eye on mine, and touch wood, ok so far!

A cylinder is probably leaking. Open the engine compartment lid and check for fluid dampness around the cylinders the black things that stick down.

The fluid is Pentosin and is water soluble so you can rinse it off with just water. The stuff is hard on rubber and I wouldn't like it on paint or wiring either.

There are write ups -- not here that I'm aware of but on another Porsche 996 Turbo forum (www.rennlist.org)-- that cover repairing this system. All the spoiler parts -- 13 or 14 -- are available separately. Some souls have apparently successfully taken the system apart and fixed the leaks and refilled the system and bled the system to ensure both sides of the spoiler go up the same mount and both come fully down again.

I am not in a position to work on my 996 Turbo so when the spoiler started acting up I washed the Pentosin away and pulled the fuse that controls the spoiler (and the engine compartment latch! so if you pull this fuse you won't be able to open the engine compartment lid with the switch on the door sill) to disable the spoiler and stop the fluid from leaking until I decided what to do.

Seriously considered the solid uprights.

Since my spoiler troubles someone has developed an electrical spoiler system that replaces the factory system. Here's a link:

http://rennkit.com/

What I did was to have the bad system replaced with a new one.

Next time, if there is a next time, I might go with the solid mount system or I might go with the Rennkit system. I'll make up my mind then.

Thank you for the replies. I took it to Porsche this morning and they are replacing the Rams under warranty. Result!

Sweet. I was not aware your car was covered by any warranty.

I wasn't 100% sure it was covered and taking it to the garage is a pain! I was hoping it maybe a quick fix myself. Thanks anyway. cheers

Result! Must be a late model to still have cover under OPC warranty?
