Dead Battery - 996 Turbo S 2005 Mechanical Release Location?

As the the title says, I have returned to a thoroughly dead battery that will not take any charge.
I cannot get the front Boot open, due to the electrical release switch being dead.
I have tried;
1. the fuse pullout & charge from a battery charger & press keyfob boot release - no luck. keeps coming up with error (two chargers)
2. the fuse pull out & connect to jumper leads & keyfob boot release - no luck.
3. taken the passenger side wheel arch covers x 2 off - cannot see the manual release.
4. taking most of the drivers side off but cannot see the release.
I see posts about Boxsters etc, with a lovely pic of the release, but so far I cannot locate mine.
Any help appreciated, everything including jack & locking wheel nut fitting is in the locked boot, so access is tight.
Its Forecast for 26 degrees here all week & I want to use the beast.

Open the drivers door. There is little circle there with a cable attached to it at the top of the aperture. Pull it. You should be sorted... i miss my 996 turbo s!
On mine this is a release for the fuel filler unfortunately.Anymore ideas would be appreciated, as I am stuck.

Mine was under the right hand side wheel arch but quite far back as i almost missed it.
When I get a chance I will remove all right side ( I presume drivers side UK )Front section is all off so would have thought i would have seen it already.
How far back was it?
Looking at the wheel would it be at 2 o'clock position or??
I am yet to have a failure where the emergency release hasn't worked.
A few times though I have had to use both releases at the same time:
Connect the jump pack to the red tag and the door hinge; press the front Lid release on the key at the same time as the front Lid release in the sill panel.

When I had this on mine I used a spare battery to attach to the door charging tab thingy, that enabled my to pop the bonnet and access the (very dead) battery.
If you don't have a spare battery lying around, can you reach it with jumper cables led to another car??
As far as I can remember there isn't a manual release on the facelift cars.

I had already tried this off a battery charger & off jump leads.A few times though I have had to use both releases at the same time:

I retried as Pope suggested hooking up to Australias Finest V8 4WD and another set of jump leads & this time pressed the keyfob & release switch at the same time & hey presto the front lid popped up!
Car is now on charge.
Final Question in this saga - Is there a mechanical release I can locate????
I have all the wheel arch panels off now & I would like to find it before closing things back up.

If I remember right it was about level with the height of the indicator and quite far in. I used a metal coat hanger as I could get my hand that far in. Do note that some people (in the UK) have their release on the other side so it's kind of 50/50. I actually missed the cable to start with as its not that obvious where it is.

Simple check now the lid is open:
Remove the slam panel trim - turn the 90 degree twist clips and lift off the trim.
Look at the lid lock assembly; you'll see the main release off to the left (of the car- right as you look at it facing the car) - a shrouded / moulded assembly that ends with a solenoid tucked into the front tub.
Attached to the assembly should be your emergency release cable - follow it......
