I have been looking at a few 997 Carrera S and wondered what the market price really is at just now

The difference between WBAC pricing and the typical prices for 2005-7 cars is MASSIVE. Much bigger than the gap for the M3 I am considering trading in.

Just wondered what people's experiences in the current market are.
Looking at the 20-22k range but when I enter those cars in WBAC it offers 14-15k for the same car for sale at 20k

On the m3 my WBAC valuation is 90% of the apparent market price

What are your thoughts ?

Sold my 997s earlier this year, WBAC offer was £19800, well known dealer paid £24k and advertised it for £27995

WBAC prices are all over the place. Their bid on a MKI 997GT3RS is £41k, when it's worth triple that.
On the other hand someone on here sold his MKII 996GT3 to them for above market price (and they then went on to sell it at auction and take a hit)

They are by no means the arbiter of what the market price is.

Lol I agree. The day after I heard about them having sold the gt3 at auction for a loss I repriced my old 996GT3 with them. Unsurprisingly £20k below what they offered previously. Oops!

The prices vary wildly depending on spec, miles, history etc. Theres loads around in your budget, I looked at a fair few at a variety of specs and prices before I bought mine. I would say I paid as much as its possible to for a gen 1, but the spec was perfect, so it was worth it to me. I am sure there are loads of good ones at 20-24k mark, but be careful! The specialists are worth a look, especially Portiacraft, they have very well priced cars (not where mine came from but saw a few there)

I appreciate that everyone has a budget, but if at all possible it's worth going for a 997.2. It moved the game on in several useful areas, which are well documented here.

They were the last of the hydraulic steering 911's, and are a very good drive, although so's the 997.1...

I sort of agree and disagree at the same time. I think the Gen one looks better, rear lights and driving lights look a bit too much like modern additions on a slightly older shape to me I guess.

That said I was looking for a Gen 2 when I bought mine. The interior / stereo updates and the engine improvements are unquestionably desirable. Over all though, spec and history beat gen1 or gen 2 for me.

Whatever you think about the looks, the 997.2 is just a better driving car. But for the record, i personally think the facelift bits are an improvement.

So as said, not only do you have to consider the two generations of 997, they are sensitive to spec and mileage. They all look the same to the average punter, but in reality can be really quite different!

Your money will be safe in any manual 997 though.

Damn, I'd better get shot of my 997 1.5 Turbo Tip then. Just to be on the safe side. Never mind the better interior and Le Mans engine. That damned auto box, just terrible to have in a daily driver.

Hang onto it until some other elderly person needs a runabout.

The reality is that, as these cars get older, they are viewed as a weekend car. As with any previous 911, the manuals are therefore sought after and go for a noticeable premium.
