Hi all,
I'm looking to get back in to Porsche ownership. As per the title not sure between a 997 GTS or a 991S. Both cars will be around £60/70kish and pre-owned I want pdk, sport exhaust, upgraded stereo etc, which both cars should have, what's the better drive ( maybe subjective maybe?), safest purchase for future resale etc? views on current ownership etc

Anyone, any thoughts?

Some days I'm considering the same, however heavily leaning towards the 997 GTS.

I would be looking closer to the £50k mark, 2wd and manual.

The 991 S is a great car and I've driven the 2 and 4 at the Porsche experience centre.

The 991 feels more expensive - interior, engine sound etc. however, the GTS looks and feels more special.

All in my opinion, both are fantastic :-)

Tricky one. I was recently in a similar'ish position. This was going to be my 4th Porsche & wasn't sure want to get. I even drove a macan. I placed a deposit on a CGTS; but felt it wasn't going to be special enough as the GT4 & also I always regretted selling my previous 911s. So got my deposit back from my OPC & was thinking a 997 GTS. My indy kind of put me off saying they are priced at the top of the game & will come down a bit. In the end I saved myself a load of cash & bought a nice 5 year old 997 C2S PDK for under £40K. Personally, if I still wanted to spend north of £50K I would buy a 997 turbo. It will also hold its value better than a 997 GTS & def over a 991S. The 991 feels more like a limo than a 997 - both great cars; but down to personal choice.

I think 'Limo' might be *stretching* the analogy a little too far, but we hear ya. :-)

I was weighing up the same options. Here are my thoughts, please remember this is just my humble subjective opinion:

991 2S- Better looking design, more expensive interior, much larger feeling car, interior defiantly feels more spacious. controls, and set up more ergonomic. PSE sounds better.

997 GTS- smaller, cabin feels much tighter and lower, more awkward sat nav set up etc. when trying to use while driving. Drive pretty much on par with the 991, as I don't track so I noticed little difference.

Performance wise, again they felt very similar. Like I said I don't do track days, so I never push the car to its limits, I wouldn't be able to say which would come out on top they were tracked, I would hazard a guess at the GTS. For the A and B roads I tried them both out on, there was no definitive difference.

The GTS was about 8 grand cheaper which helped with my decision, but the real deciding factor for me was that 'special feeling'. I didn't want to be spending a small fortune on a car to see someone else driving the same one. So I went with the GTS. Now people I am sure can say that they see them all the time, but I hardly ever see the GTS, where as the 991 is starting to become a weekly sight.
