Just browsing the classifieds, looking for that ideal 996 as I continue to do and came across this;

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-996-1998-lhd... (larger pictures)

I'm sure this will open a discussion to completely polar views, but I really quite like the wide body look on this, looks rather well done..

What does everyone else think?

  • Title should read Gambella Inspired 996**

I really don't understand why someone would do something like this, it looks horrid.

Body kits (wide body kits especially) just don't make sense to me. The owner is effectively saying "I know that I have fked this cars handling right up and now it will steer and turn like a dog running with leaded divers boots on but look and it!...... more importantly, LOOK AT ME!!!"

No thanks, looks wk, give me a standard 996 and let me make swift, discreet progress in one of the sweetest handling cars to come out of Stuttgart. I would rather spend the bodykit money on petrol!

Haha I knew it would provide a range of views.. ! But yes, I like it but i'd rather an unmolested C4S for £20,000.

This bit of the ad doesn't sound quite right:

"gemballa inspired wide arch body kit with gemballa decals"

It certainly reads like the kit was made by a.n.other?

For me, that's the biggest issue. I 'get' the Koenig Ferraris and Gemballa 911s. I'd own original examples of them..as examples of '80s tuning styles...if anyone has a Cyrrus, let me know.

But to go to the bother of replicating them ( and I don't ever recall seeing a Gemballa conversion resembling the one in the photos...so is it even a replica or just a pastiche?) is 'strange'

I like it.

The 'problem' (and I'm guilty of this too at times) is that Porsche purists compare everything to what the factory produced, instead of judging cars in isolation, and on their own merits.

I think this car, in isolation, looks good.

And the wheels, possibly also wing. Otherwise I kind of like it...
