Received the call yesterday from my German OPC where I had previously signed a non-binding 'option'. He was saying that they will receive a total of three RS over the next 12 months, and that I can have one of them for delivery in early 2016. This would go with a €20k deposit and a 'guarantee' that I will actually receive the car.

Question is, what now? On the one hand, I do not hugely desire one and I do have a 997.1 RS which I will keep. On the other hand I felt lucky when I got the call.

Can somebody explain the relevant man maths to me so I can decide what to do?

What would you do?

so what you do is give the dealer the 20k then when the car arrives you pay the balance owing.
If you want to, you can sell your current car to help achieve this.

Yes, I'm afraid, the bit about me keeping the 997, and that I am looking for the man maths rather than the plain arithmetics... :-)

Weak Euro at the minute would mean better price than buying one in the UK too surely!

Hi

Not being provocative just to the point here :-

Refuse the Car - Let someone else have the allocated car who may actually want it and leave it at that - No maths of any sort required !

Alternatively become a speculator and do what others have said - you have the funds so once again No maths of any kind required.

I'll buy the allocation from you for a £1.
You've dabbled in speculation, made a profit and haven't been greedy so your zen isn't impacted and you'll be able to sleep at night.

Deal?

Surely worst case you could buy it and sell it on and make a few quid? Better than the interest rate from the bank?

That is what I am assuming, in case disaster strikes (god forbid!) between now and early 2016 when it should be delivered (and paid for)

...sat in the 991 GT3 RS at Geneva yesterday - crikey !

it's a riot of exotic featherweight composites/carbon/Kevlar/magnesium/plexi-glass materials.

mental 500ps NA powertrain, and the biggest rear wheels (918 sized cup2 boots) ever bolted to a road-going 911. End result is a ‘ring time of 7:20 according to the Porsche rep (!)

Really really special - super exotic lightweight materials, bonkers NA powertrain.

So if you go down the speculator route does that put you in the bad books with Porsche? I assume that they won't offer you any more cars in future

What makes everyone think that the car would fetch overs, in the eurozone, in 2016. Not saying it wouldn't but it's not as robust a punt as RHD in the U.K.

I discussed openly with the OPC the 'if disaster strikes' scenario, and he did not seem to have an issue with that.

Also, as per the other comment, in LHD countries there is less of an immediate uplift, I guess, so it's probably not as much of a speculative object as it is in the UK.
