Porsche 997.1 newbie
Discussion
Hi all,
After months of searching I have finally put down a deposit on a Black Gen 1 2008 997 C4S this morning. I will post pictures when I collect in a weeks time.
I do have a couple of questions in the meantime (I may keep adding to this list)
1) I'm not overly keen on the wheels that are on it and I like the 997 Turbo style wheels. Is this a straight swap? Any recommended places to buy them from (other than OPC who want £5k)?
2) Is there a spare wheel? Please tell me the tyres aren't run flats.... If the answers are no and no what do people do to protect against punctures?
Thanks
Rob

I think I've responded to Q1 in your other post. You might find some wheels on eBay or Chris at Excel Wheels might have some. After months of searching I have finally put down a deposit on a Black Gen 1 2008 997 C4S this morning. I will post pictures when I collect in a weeks time.

No spare wheel, just a can of tyre foam for emergencies.

My mate has got Turbo wheels on his 997.2 S so should be a straight fit, they do pop up ebay from time to time:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-porsche-996-997-...
Part numbers check out too.
I have no affiliation with the seller.
And me who thought the turbo design was dated in 2007 already..
Shell V power. Not sure it makes a difference or not. But I feel better putting in what's best out there for my babies. Only use that both for my GT3 and for my GTI.
Think 5th gear had shown 5hp gain on a GTI compared to other fuels. And BP ultimate had come out exactly at the same figure of its standard equivalent despite being even more expensive than V power...

A tank of supermarket crap and my old E36 ran like it was missing, never been away from Shell since (except for emergencies (£5 tops) or being at the Nurburgring as no Shell there - 102 RON available in Adenau though!

My 9 year old 997 C4S has never seen a drop of super unleaded, only ever run on 95. I don't use supermarket fuels as I never go to the supermarket so only use Shell / BP. No problems in 8 years of usage. I think the premium fuels are a rip off personally others disagree.
Good quality 95-Octane won't cause any issues at all. The only thing that's different is your car will be running less ignition advance than it would using higher-octane fuel. This causes a small decrease in performance and a small increase in fuel consumption as the engine isn't running quite as efficiently.Whilst the performance and fuel-usage differences due to octane are smaller in modern engines than in older designs (I remember a test on a BMW E46 CSL engine, from 11/12 years ago, showing a loss of approx. 40BHP going from 99-RON to 95-RON fuel) they can still be significant and noticeable. For example, the 9A1 DFI engine in the 997.2 sounds totally different when running on 95-RON than it does when running on 99-RON. The power delivery is also markedly different as the octane changes (it's even different between brands with the same nominal octane rating, such a Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum 99).

I'd give it a go based on what you said but I only drive 10 miles a week in 10x 1 mile trips so not sure I'd notice the difference in the power delivery!
Surely that can't be good for the engine. The engine will never be warm. Probably more reason to use a better fuel with more protective qualities IMOOem Wheel and tyre prices here look reasonable but never tried them?

Hi guys,
If I go view some wheels how can I tell they are genuine Porsche and not replicas? Do they have a part number inscribed somewhere?
Thanks
Ask him to remove the tyres (on all 4 wheels) and you should see a monogrammed Porsche logo with an inset diamond. Take the diamond to a jewellers and if it's less than 18 carat the wheels are fake If I go view some wheels how can I tell they are genuine Porsche and not replicas?
