1998 996 drivers side door handle stopped working from the outside?

The window still dips when the handle is lifted but the door lock has stopped working (the lock is working but the door is not opening from the outside, the inside handle works fine)

Has anyone else experience this please - is it a simple fix?

I was going to remove the door card and see if there's a broken clip or similar - having not done this job before - is there anything I should know about removing the door card please?

Thanks

Roberty

Yes it is an easy fix if you aren't afraid of taking your door card off?

pelican parts

Figure 2: the threaded stud pointed out by the pale blue arrow should be secured in the black plastic collar seen in Figure 5.

Figure 5, bottom right corner, the black plastic piece (green arrow), this has a recess along the length, the threaded stud should reside here and the collar pulled up over to secure it.

Mine did the same 10 months ago on the same day I was taking it to Porsche for a free Service clinic, I asked them to look at it whilst it was there. They didn't just quoted me an hours labour to investigate and said it would probably need a new locking mechanism.

Fixed it myself the next day using this article from Pelican parts, took about an hour.

I added a small tie-wrap behind the collar so that it wouldn't come loose again.
