Porsche design team continue to multilate the 991 Turbo
Discussion
Not content with designing one of the worst rear ends in 911 history in the 991 turbo, Porsche had a good chance to redeem themselves with the £5k aerokit turbo option. A chance to re-model the look of the car a little at the rear and make it more distinctive from the Carrera at he front. The 996 and 997 Turbo aerokits were good for this (the 996 one especially so), with that in mind I wonder what the design team were smoking when they penned this travesty:

I am sure the non symmetrical wingtips work great but does the way it look not mean anything anymore? Its hard to believe that the same company can design the 918 Spyder and 991 GT3 rear ends and yet come up with this for their flagship road 911.

Porsche are really lazy when it comes to design for the turbo. Gemballa or Techart came up with the double side vent look for the 996 turbo and Porsche decided to copy it for their 997 turbo. The 997 turbo is ageing well though. It looks better today than when it first came out IMO.
Ruf came up with flat rear spoiler and design for lower side vents on their 997 and 991 turbo Rufs and Porsche blatantly copied them on their 991 turbo. On the lower bumper vent its basically the same larger Ruf design with a tick across it.
I've had both 991 turbo and 997 turbo parked up in my drive and whilst the new car has much more road presence due mainly to its larger size and those huge rear hips but overall I think the 997 is a better design IMO. It looks like a 993 which can't be bad.
You should see the new OEM aerokit on the cooking 991s. The rear spoiler looks so out of place and aftermarket halfords its not funny.

wasn't keen on 997 turbo look when it first came out especially the wheels, now? I bought one, much prefer it to 996 and 991, and even like the wheelsThe 991 looks fine but both wheel types I have seen are way too fussy ( the centre locks and the 50 spokers shown above)

Techart i believe were first to come out with twin side vent look - Porsche borrowed that look for the 997

Ruf had the flat deck rear spoiler on the RT12 - and Porsche duly borrowed that design for the 991 turbo

On the RT 35 Ruf designed a wider lower bumper vent and again Porsche basically aped this design and put a tick across. You'd think they could come up with their own design ideas.

Not sure any of the aero kit's improved the looks of the 911T's. When I looked for my 996 I was avoiding the aero kit cars, the front spoiler is too prominent and far lower than the side skirts so looks out of place or aftermarket and the rear spoiler does absolutely nothing for me. Even with the spoiler ram faults the non-aero rear is so much cleaner and better looking
The GT2 on the other hand <3
