991 C2S Depreciation - new or used?
Discussion
I've been looking at what to replace my car with closer to Christmas and seen this, which kind of appeals. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/porsche/911/...
Tbh that must have been what... 90k new? Doesn't seem far down for a 3yr old car?
Are 991's really holding their value that well now, and against 997's?

991's do seem to be holding their values well at present, especially PDK's. Manuals don't seem to be as popular in 991's, and I'd suggest if that yellow one was PDK, it would have already been sold.
I've seen a few manual 991's at under £60k but not many PDK's; if you consider a manual, I'd suggest a good test drive first as some people find them hard work IMHO.

I think all the Porsche sports cars have done OK last 2 years as consumer confidence improves - case in point I bought a 30,000 mile 2005 C4S convertible for £35k in Oct 2012 so nearly 2 years ago. Look at Autotrader now and with one exception the cheapest similar retail cars are £32k with 60,000 miles. I know they might not sell at that price etc but it still feels like cheap motoring. Unfortunately the effect of this is that the 991's seem to be holding value well. I would have no qualms about buying a second hand one but it has to make financial sense - if you can get a decent discount new the gap might not be that great. I would always be distracted by a 997.2 Turbo S at that pricepoint though
I have followed 991 prices for the last year or so. They have held up well and better than 997.2 in the same time period from launch. (probably due to the economy)
I bought a 15k mileage 2009 manual 997 gen2 C2S car in 2011 2 years old for £48k - almost exactly half price.
This summer I looked at 991s and they were no where near as good value - again a manual which i agree are much cheaper than the PDK options.
Incidently I plumbed for a 997.2 C4S well specced lower mileage car while waiting for the 991s to drop a bit more ...

The real test for the 991 will be when the GTS arrives this year and the 3 finance deals from 2012 start to expire en-masse from Q1 2015.Tbh that must have been what... 90k new? Doesn't seem far down for a 3yr old car?

For a two year old 991 though, £1k per month loss aint that bad although the Gen2 997 Turbo's have not really budged since late 2012.
Looks like the yellow car is still for sale. Is now classed as the end of Summer or still most likely to get best deals at Christmas? tbh fancy a change but no idea what I really want. Looking at Evora's as well as they seem a bit different and fun, and not sure I'm really into the M3.
To the surprise of many doubters, and I count myself on this, the 991 residual has held up very well. Perhaps no surprise needed, it is a 911 after all. Maybe the economy, or perhaps this model has found the broader market that Porsche was aiming at? Maybe the halo effect of the GT3?

Its just an asset bubble. Have a look at how many threads have popped up in last 18 months about car's holding their money. This was not the case in 2011/12.
