hey guys

having read through the general details of a policy to cover a 997 c2s, under the engine cover it mentions;

Engine
All internally lubricated parts are covered including:
Camshafts & bearings, camshaft followers & rockers (including hydraulic lash adjusters), connecting rods & bearings, crankshaft & bearings, cylinder block, cylinder bores & liners & seals, cylinder heads, internal bushes & bearings, oil pump & drive, pistons & rings, timing gears & chain & tensioner and valves & springs & guides (burnt or pitted valves and valve seats are excluded from cover).

excuse my ignorance, but does this then mean if the worst was to happen i.e bore scoring etc, you would be covered? has anyone had any experience with the company?

thanks

I don't have any first-hand experience of this company but a search on here will reveal some useful information. Generally speaking, their scope of cover is considerably less than a Porsche warranty and issues such as bore scoring are often classified as wear and tear.

I think the only way to *maybe* have a chance of claiming for bore-scoring were it to happen, is if you have an inspection report & photos from the day before the policy starts, and they agree that the engine is ok in this respect in advance of taking your money and issuing said policy. Otherwise, they'll fall back on the "wear & tear" clause, or state "pre-existing condition".

In my view, for all the hoop-jumping required to *hopefully* mean claims will be straightforward (but still with no guarantee) I'd rather be on Hartech's maintenance programme, which costs less (taking the inclusive services into account), or put some cash aside each year and self-insure.

No, because in the wording it will say it has to be caused by something like 'sudden and catastophic failure', which bore scoring never will be.

They once tried to tell me bore scoring was covered - when I asked for it in writing it mentioned the above, which the sales guy then basically confirmed I wouldn't be able to claim for bore scoring as a result.
