Thought I'd share some words and pics of my 996 turbo. Bought it about 6 weeks ago after a (really) long hunt and saving but feels great to finally drive the thing.
I went out for a drive tonight and the only thing I don't understand is how other people still find the need to tune it further. Mine is a standard turbo and every time I get back home, I just wonder how long it'll be before I get a diet of prison food 24/7.
Anyway, loving everything else about it. Feels so organic compared to a lot of other cars I drove recently (some of which are much faster). If you have a chance to get a good example, don't hesitate to buy one. I know there are a few of you looking out there so my advice is spend a lot of time checking the car and have an inspection done if you are buying privately (sorry for stating the obvious). The one thing I was caught out by was the over-revs (1 and 2) check performed by a "reputed" specialist. They could not tell me the duration at those revs so had to get a second opinion so watch out for that one.
Now, just getting used to the "odd" noises that a lot of us are paranoid about.
I can recommend the led sidelight upgrade as well if you haven't done it. See the pic

Just need to try and hold on to my licence now....

Nice post. As I recently picked up a 997T I know what you mean about worrying whether visiting hours would fit in with the family routine. Not sure about your mezger, but sometimes mine sounds like a bag of spanners and I find the OCD kicking in 'I'm sure than noise wasn't there yesterday' ...

Oh yes - had some funny noise below 2000rpm today, think it's the heat shields letting go but who knows. I would think the 997TT is better built overall so at least you don't have to put up with the squeak I am desperately trying to find in my front bulkhead!
