Well it's a year today (after probably a good year of looking lol!!) since I picked my 997 on my 41st birthday from 911 virgin and suffered face ache from skiving off work and touring round some deserted Cotswold roads. Something I intend to replicate today .

So guess it's only right I post a few thoughts.

I'll try and stick to the actual car rather than the experience as I think young Tom at 911 virgin has had more than enough praise on his fantastic operation down there .

Well l clearly I love it - but what am I loving specifically ?

Pretty much everything ! Obvious things like the sound (gotta love hitting that PSE button!), looks, handling, speed, but without sounding like a boring old twonk the practicality is incredible. I've used it for everything from supermarket shopping trips, days out with the kids, picking 20 packs of laminate flooring up from B&Q, track days, a prom car, airport runs with luggage stacked up in the back and it's took all of those things in its stride !

And if I'm being fussy - I don't like;

The (aero kit) front splitter making horrible scrapy noises if I even think of approaching anything that remotely resembles an incline - you literally have to plan some journeys around this ! But it looks mega so I'll forgive that

Crappy little sun visors (which have caught me out a couple of times in low sun).

Excessive OCD cleaning sessions due to my colour choice.

Mobridge has been a bit hit and miss with my iphone.

As I don't drive it all the time the battery has caught me out (I blocked a one way street after stalling it - doh!!) so I know hook it up to a ctek very 2 weeks or so.

Mechanically ?

Perfect (touching wood furiously!). It uses hardly any oil (I did overfill it a tiny bit and it smoked on my inclined driveway on start up for a couple of weeks but is now fine).

Tom put a new clutch in it at 37k under warranty shortly after I got it - had a very slight screech occasionally when pulling away in first - nothing to worry about but they replaced it anyway.

During the 50th anniversary OPC free health checks they said one of the minor rear oil seals was weeping. A £12 part with an hours labour. The technician said officially he wouldn't even bother with it - but Tom insisted again under warranty so it was done.

I've spent nothing on it others than lots of v power nitro, some zunsport grills to protect the new condensers that had just been fitted when I bought it, and I've had the centre console painted to match the factory painted adaptive sports seats.

So..so far so good, and it looks like all those hours of worrying about IMS/RMS/bore scoring internet horror stories spoiling my dream car moment were wasted and it's just been an incredible, text book experience and I'd recommend it to anyone - but do consider talking to some of the excellent indies to help you find the right car.

My poor old Ducatis haven't had a look in for a year !

Catch you later - I've got some Cotswold A roads and a birthday cream tea for one with my name on it

Very nice, glad your enjoying it....I hope to be making a foray into 911 ownership myself once the hit of moving house has abated. I sold my RS4 to fund a 997 then my wife brings forward the move!!

A good read - who painted your centre console?

911 virgin sorted it with the painter they use mate - £100 with my taking it all out and refitting (easy with available tutorials online and done trim tools). Quite enjoyed doing it with a couple if beers for courage ! Also had the small door inserts done too. Nice job (I'm a bit fussy as I spend my life in the factories of porsche/Ferrari etc working with paint engineets through my job lol!

thanks - very reasonable price compared to OPC parts, know what you mean about DIY on these things, manged to swap some trim on my car, very satisfying given my zero aptitude for suc things.

Probably doesn't help me if a painter as I am trying to trim centre console in leather rather than painting
