I was daydreaming of Manthey bits last night and browsing ebay.de came across a pair of carbon fibre front wings for a 996:

(no affiliation to the seller, I don't even speak German).

It got me thinking though - do these regularly come up for sale? Do they get fitted to road cars? Is it even possible? At €1000 for a pair, there's no way they're going on my car, although I just looked at OE panels and the price difference wasn't as large as I was expecting.

So please, keep me daydreaming now that I'm at work - are there any 996 street cars out there with carbon fibre panels?

Last year on the UK ebay there was a complete RSR kit for sale at around 1-1.5k (minus wing)

Wish i got it now and put it in storage but there you go

Loads of carbon panels available for the 996 as I was looking into it for my 996 track car...

Quite a few guys in the US have carbon panels as they tend to be more into 'tuning' and the panels are more 'available' there.

If you want to save some weight and have some carbon on show, there are plenty of places offering carbon bonnets in the UK smile

I do wonder how light you could get a car with carbon 'everything' - I'm tempted to try it, one day!

Yep, mine (it's in the profile). It was to go racing a few years back. Would have been cheaper if I'd started out with a Cup car in the first place, but if anything it proves how utterly wonderful the road car is.

At its lightest the car weighed 1220kg, but I could have gone lighter (roof and rear 3/4 were original steel panels). The carbon bits were from GT-Racing in the US.

@dom9, I've seen the carbon bonnets, but I'd have mine painted if I was going to go down that route. I like the look of panels that come from big name Porsche shops, such as those Manthey wings above.

In fact, Harris_I, your car looks like exactly the thing I day dream about; something that to most people looks like a GT3, but with an even more amazing spec underneath. I guess it's a GT3 sleeper cloud9

I'd love to have a similar car, and will try and go a little OEM+ with my C2, but there seems little point spending a fortune on Manthey / Ruf bits for it. Best get saving I suppose..
