So, putting aside prejudices on looks, values, noise etc, for those of you who have experience of both, which would you say is the better driver's car?

on what sort of road ?

UK bumby B road or on a track ?

not that many here inc me have driven both side by side one after the other.

the 993RS is now just a collectors car the price is such they don't get used in that way very often.

Gen 1 996 GT3 on both UK roads and track.

...and ignore the value aspect.

The 993 RS is a great car, but I didn't think it was a quantum leap over my 964 RS. For me the addition of power steering, extra compliance in the rack ends and the supposedly superior rear suspension just didn't make for a package that was as "honest" and engaging to drive as the 964 RS. Whilst the 3.8 Varioram engine was torquier than the 964's, again it didn't feel a lot stronger than the mapped and de-catted engine in my 964 RS.

I went from the 993 RS to the Mk1 996 GT3 and it found it to be a quantum leap forward from so many perspectives.
The GT3 wasn't engaging in the way an aircooled car is, but the GT3's engine felt mighty compared with that of the 993's.
Overall the GT3 was nicer place to be. Aircon and less NVH saw to that. With practice I always felt I could wring the neck of the 993 RS on the road and drive it at 10/10's. And whilst it took me less time to be able to drive the GT3 at 8/10's, the final 2/10's took a lot longer to access compared with the 993RS.

Both are fantastic cars, but the 993 RS is rapidly approaching garage queen/unusable status over the past few years due to the values climbing. Finding a nice Mk1 GT3 is getting tougher by the month though.

I can echo Slippy's comments but only from having passenger rides on tracks in 964RS, 993RS and 996GT3(all variants). The 993RS was not as raw as the 964RS and didn't have the pace of a GT3. So, leaving values aside, if some kind soul said I could choose two from the three to put in the garage, the 993RS is the one that wouldn't get a space. boxedin

993RS is lovely to drive and much prettier, but the GT3 is faster and just as rewarding, if not more so, to drive.

Crikey, you two really dislike each over don't you, I'd love to be a fly on the wall if you ever bump into each other at a meet or event...arguepunch

Have experience of both. Prefer the GT3 as its sharper and less wooden. My 993 RSR - fully rose jointed, Supercup springs, no power steering etc - is still not as sharp as the GT3.

993 does not - however - have the same capacity to bite as hard if a mistake is made.

I KNOW !!! It's hard to believe there's a world out there, but more surprising still, that life continues apace beyond the confines of the PH forums type
