Santa just delivered me a 2005 996 C4S which is fantastic!
I have the PCM with Sat Nav and Phone function.
Can anybody advise what SIM card to get for the slot? I'm thinking Pay As You Go would be best.

Isn't it the same choice as any other phone? Depends on preference and how much you intend to use it. I guess you don't need to worry about data though.

Any standard size SIM works. We used Giffgaff in ours.

I use a Giffgaff PAYG SIM in my 2005 turbo. I tried a new PAYG Vodafone SIM first, but it stubbornly refused to see the network. Strangely, my very old Vodafone 3G data SIM registered fine, although obviously wouldn't make calls, but it was easier to try GiffGaff than to get an old pattern SIM from Voda.

Weren't some of the early pcm units locked to a specific service provider? I may be wrong...

My own 997 has a payg O2 sim card in it, useful for the one or two phone calls I make per year in the car. Also, because the car has the phone module it's nice that it does actually work!

edit: misread your post. 05 car should be fine on any payg sim.

Get a Parrot and just use your own phone. Miles better!

I also don't make too many calls from mine but enjoy the ability to take calls diverted from my usual mobile, hands free.

Some built in car systems only work on GSM900 networks (O2 & Vodafone) and not on GSM1800 (Orange & T Mobile). This is down to the hardware only working at the lower frequency range so cannot be overcome AFAIK.

Ovivo are probably better. You pay £15 (maybe £20 now) for the SIM, have £15 of credit and a free call/text/data allowance. I believe that its either 150 or 200 minutes a month now.

I think this is what you're looking for:

I've been using this solution for the last 8 years and it works perfectly. Obviously I would test the system with an Orange/EE SIM first.

Just as a bit of a follow up, I fitted the GiffGaff sim yesterday and it worked no problem.
The PCM isn't that bad once you get used to it.

I have decided to research what these CD's are, apparently back in the day people would store music on them...

Actually, I used to have a 2004 MINI Cooper S and that had a Tape Player...
