7.2 gt3 rs ground clearance
Discussion
Just wondering if someone could kindly let me know just how much ground clearance the car has as I'm wondering how badly I might need the lift option when looking for a car, especially as I have to enter into an underground carpark. From memory the lift only raises the front axle by 3cm which really isn't a lot so I'm wondering if I can get by without.. For a bit of reference I have not had major issues with ground clearance on either a r8 or 12c but the front overhangs on both cars are shorter and look to my eye to be slightly higher as well. Thanks.

I've run an R8 and a 12C and the RS is lower. Both cars got in my driveway but a gen2 997 GT3 needed lift or it ripped the splitter off.I have the opposite experience with my 7.2RS. Driving it all over london and into my garage and over speed bumps didn't give me any issues whatsoever. Yes sometimes you hear a scrapping sound and it comes from the the sacrificial plastic at the front wheel well which is the lowest point of the car. I thought I might need lift in london but as it turns out, I didn't and mine has been lowered a tad from factory due to geo/corner weighting by RPM technik. So, if I can drive in london through speed bumps, I don't see why it is a problem. Yes, you have to navigate the speed bump and not treat it like a rally car but the front splitter is way more robust than that of the 996 GT3 variety.
Front lift is unnecessary weight

but your garage is not underground and does not have a steep ramp into itI can't get into my underground garage without lift
As for driving through streets in london with all our speed bumps, it is not a requirement.

Mind I haven't tried navigating your garage entrance but have you tried? Not that you would with the "lift" but so often is this requirement imaginary. People feel safer with it but if you have seen how close my spyder comes to scraping the front, you would have never guessed that my RS would clear the ramp to my garage either. Fair point it isn't underground though.

Thanks for that. Just had a very good look at the ramp to my place and think it should be fine if speedbumps are ok for you. Perhaps the solihull car is possible then if they can offer up something for the lack of a cage... As for driving through streets in london with all our speed bumps, it is not a requirement.

With speed bumps you generally have the ability to steer towards them at an angle to raise the car more gradually, which is not always the case when going in to a garage. Secondly, it is not just the "height" of the splitter from the floor but also the wheelbase of the car. So while a Spyder might have the same splitter height as a GT3 or whatever, the wheelbase on a Spyder is shorter so the whole car will change attitude quicker.
I have lift on my RS. I do use it over speed bumps but more for a speed thing - not that you can go barelling over them - than absolute clearance. I've found it useful when going up or down narrow slopes where there is a rapid change from flat to slope i.e going up or slope to flat ie. going down. Most recently found this when driving through the tunnel to get to Silverstone International circuit for example.
It's not a necessity but it does have its uses.
Happy New Year all.
Had it on mine, used it lots to get in and out of places, definatley recommend it. Also the extra height is on top of the wheels so actually as it pivots off the rear wheels when raised it gives more height at the front spoiler than above the wheels effectively. Have a 997.1 GT3 now and scrap the spoiler all the bloody time
As for the extra weight unless you are Walter Rohl I dont think its an issue

As I mentioned before, I couldn't own my car without it. As you can see my drive is sloped down to a flat garage. I think it is one of those things that if you have it you'll sing its praises, if you haven't got it then you won't know any difference.
Thanks all for the replies and especially nbtbrv8 for the picture above, am going to need the lift after all I guess as the slope to my parking is certainly not any less than in the picture. Now just a matter of waiting for a good one to come up....that angle appears to be much less of an incline than mine yet mine when taken at an angle clears. If I had to take it straight on for sure it would scrap. I took a gamble and it worked out.
All I am saying is that it's good and safer to have, but experience tells me that unless you drive up your own garage in one, it is too difficult to judge if it is going to be an issue. The splitter is also a lot more hardy than previous gen GT3s.
It works for me but you need to take slopes/bumps slowly and at an angle. I do admit that underground carparks could be a potential issue.
