Hi All
I've done a lot of Googling and trawling around the forums to try not to waste time asking things people already have (so apols if I've missed anything)
Had an M3, now thinking of a 997 turbo. Something like this looks very tempting http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...
However, have read the obligatory horror stories about things being crazy money when they go wrong.
Sounds like the following are essential:
OPC warranty
Tracker
Pre purchase check
Running costs therefore much more than an M3???
Not planning on keeping it for that long, perhaps a year.
Really interested to hear comments/thoughts/suggestions!
Thanks in advance all.

Looks good until you get to interior. The seats and steering wheel look very tired indeed. Mine has done 63,000 miles and seats in particular still look far better than that. May be get a good indy or ppc to inspect it beforehand and see if they will stick warranty on it - If its genuine and needs nothing its reasonable. Porsche bid me £30k ish for mine which is similar age bit newer 2007 against a new 991 turbo S to give you something to compare to in terms of price. If you do not get a good car with decent warranty they can be horrendously expensive to run as older cars.
Weird, the left of the console has been replaced bya part with no leather on!? I'd assume there was a nasty phone prep on the original part & it has been replaced with a Boxster part as AFAIK all 997's had leather there. Odd, wouldn't really put me off but would ring alarm bells that someone was looking after the car on the cheap, I'd check the service history very carefully & for accident damage too, if he's tried to save £300 on that, any accident repair might be sub standard too. That being said I would love a 997tt and that price is very appealing

Pretty horrendous trade in offer!! Did you take it?Good shout Jake, didn't notice that. A sensible voice in my head says that the cheapest 997tt's are bound to have issues, but then another little voice says "yes, but it's a 997 turbo for 35k!". I should go and see a doctor about these voices...
I think there will be decent 997tt's for the odd private sale at on or around 35k, it's just a case of keeping an eye on the ads.

Several things with this car need looking at.
The leather looks generally poor, shiny and crazed. The front brakes are scored considering the discs apparantly have recently been replaced. The centre console is wrong. The 997.1 came mainly with the standard matt black console but a very small number did have leather but this was an expensive option but nice. This is grey??
The ad states the options but at least three of these were standard including the wheels and the red brake calipers! A touch of the BS!
Most of these 997s came with full electric seats, cruise and sunroof as extras.
Who allegedly fitted the new clutch, flywheel and brakes and when?
How many owners?
I would be wanting an engine readout diagnosis re revs bearing in mind manual and possibility of over revs.

My '08 car has the sparkly textured grey like in that pic and that was new, so certainly was never altered.
Agree that the rest of the car looks a bit dodgy though.
ETA that car did NOT cost £111,000 before those 'extras'!
My car in 2008 : Sports chrono, tiptronic (expensive option), numerous individual interior changes to give black and red interior with black center console/red stitching, heated seats, porsche crest in headrests and turbo script on armrest.
Non cost options : rear wiper delete, all red rear light clusters.
Standard : Bose stereo, sat nav, leather full electric seats with memory, sunroof, bi xenon with wash, 19" wheels, floor mats, red calipers (the PCCB have yellow), tyre pressure monitoring.
Car cost a few hundred under £108,000.
IIRC it was £96,000 with no extras back in 2007/2008.
The article is full of crap, and it does look rather worn inside.
