Hi guys, I was flicking through the website below as my wife is looking for a Porsche convertible and knowing nothing about them other than lots of different types and nos! I thought I'd start looking. I have in the past been into tvrs, (3 in fact) but my wifey is looking for something she can enjoy with our two girls and still get to work without any issues. I came across this and the guy has written back to me to say it's got all paperwork, never been damaged and it's on at a low price because it's out of its lease term. Am I being a little naive?? I'd appreciate any comments, this is where I'll get some truth!

Their listing states

" Our history check found that this vehicle is recorded as previously being exported, imported or written off."

I'd assume therefore that it's at least a Cat D. However if it's been properly repaired it could be someone's bargain. There's no way you'd get a fully kosher 996 turbo conv for that money

Something not quite right there; 8k for a 996 turbo? Have I been working on 991 turbo S' s too much this week and missed the market freefall??

If the price is right I wish I'd not bought my A4!! But I think it's wrong........

Thanks, that's what I think but he's written to me to say;

The car has been technically reviewed and all the paperwork is in good order. The interior looks brand new, is fully functional and smells great. The paint is original, no scratches, dents or scuffs. We took great care to ensure that the car is absolutely immaculate throughout for the age and mileage, inside and outside before putting it up for sale. It is HPI clear and has never been involved in any accidents or any discrepancies. This car wants for nothing. It is well below Parker's price guide because it has served it's lease term and this amount clears its value.

I'll call him tomorrow and ask.

Many thanks

Curtis

Never heard "out of lease term" being a reason to be that far below the market price.

Guessing the OP has never looked at any other Turbo Cab adverts.

Absolutely.

Last 996 on lease was probably 2007/8...

Of course I have checked cab ads or I wouldn't be querying the price of this!! It was more because of the pricing structure of the other Marques they are selling and the values of those. they all look remarkably cheap. I'll ask the question tomorrow and feed it back, if some of you haven't beaten me to it!!

Looks a lot of car for the money but there has to be more to it, its that price for a very good reason and nothing to do with being at the end of a lease. Regardless of that story they would look to achieve market value for it IF it was a genuine car.

Be careful out there. If its too good to be true, it is. You would at least want a PPI check done and a rock solid warranty unless you are happy to lose £8k ?

+1 - they're not on the tenant's directory for tapton park innovation centre. One of their other vehicles is an '07 X5 for 9750 - ludicrous - I've just traded in on '07 X5 with lower spec & higher miles for 16k. Why would anyone sell cars for way less than webuyanycar.com would offer?

I think you're wrong - I called today and left a deposit on it, they told me that the car's out of the country at present but put in touch with a shipping agent who I can pay directly, they will hold my money until the car arrives back here and I can check it over, only then will they release the money to the seller. What could possibly go wrong? silly

This is a scam thats been doing the rounds on Auto Trader for a while. The advert normally asks you to email the seller and not to phone them.

They are always nice cars that are way below the price they should be, (£30k car for £10k etc).

Avoid.....

Yes, got this on a A1 on autotrader which was competitively priced but not too much so. Maybe 15pct below others.

Please use email, not phone. Car is in the middle of nowhere up north, stored and ready to be delivered. Seller is away in the US this week... So delivery company will supply the car and you can settle with them directly...

Oooooookay. Haveanicedaythankyouverymuch.

Reported it to autotrader but what can they do... These things are so anonymous... Maybe they should require the VIN number of the car in the ad and make sure it matches... That might screen out some fake ones... But these guys will always be there to try...

There is a "report" link on all autotrader ads - I'd encourage everyone to use it whenever they see a dodgy ad. The quicker and more often they get caught out and the adverts taken down, the more chance of them not bothering again.

This seems quite common and can catch the gullable and stupid alike. A friend of mine took some convincing that a 2 year old Audi TT for £9k was a scam on gumtree.
