997s have the best proportions of any late model Porsche IMO ... they're all nice but the 997 nails it !

Here's my girl smile In terms of modern-ish 911s I've had a 996 C4S and a 997.1 GT3 before, so she's a different kettle of fish yet again, but a great everyday useable piece of exotica.

Gratuitous pic of all the 4 wheel toys smile

Colour coded seats backs, centre console and splitter/sideskirts plus the factory aerokit wing were initially not right up my street, but since trying to find a manual RWD coupe GTS is next to impossible, when this popped up in spring I couldn't resist regardless. Weirdly my taste has changed so I now really like the colour coding, especially the splitter and skirts, makes the car look like it's sucking itself onto the ground to my eye.

Still not entirely sold on the rear wing though (loved it on the GT3 but seems unnecessary on the GTS), so I've picked up a used regular bootlid/retractable spoiler off fleabay and will have it painted and fitted and see how I feel. Will keep the wing for when I move the car on eventually.

Bhp from the powerkit is a bit too much for optimum enjoyment the road IMO, and it also gives a bit more low end grunt than I'd like ideally (prefer to have to work a little harder), but the powerkit payoff comes with how you slam into the limiter when revving it out if you're not careful! Love that peak power is only 200rpm below the 7500 redline. Between that and the sensible gearing it's a joy to rev out and rewards you when you do. Magic smile

I love the Powerkit engine....and I think it really works extremely well with the manual 'box. Makes the manual 997 GTS a great road car IMHO....but I am biased.

Be interested to see your car without the spoiler...I think the splitter in particular works visually very well in tandem with it. Great looking car and you did the right thing buying a car on condition and having an interior that's lifted a bit from standard is no bad thing!

The powerkit engine is a wonderful thing, don't get me wrong smile I'm basically splitting hairs and being brutal hehe The extra mid range does make it even more usable as a DD without going down the excessive all-torque-at-low-revs turbo route so one can't really complain that much. I guess that I'm just saying if it had the 99.1 3.4 lump in it I don't think I'd enjoy it any less smile

Hmm, will def get a few pics up when the wing comes off and the standard lid goes on - I have a feeling it's going to give it a bit of a "997 R"-esque look which would be no bad thing

I'll show my appreciation...
'05 Gen 1 C2S in slate grey (varies with the light!) with lobsters, mine for 5 years now and as enthralling as ever, whether on Euro thrashes or the daily commute. Short shift kit, airbox mods and an exhaust hack but otherwise as it left the factory. Given that a GT3 is out of my league, it's a keeper!

Saw that, looks lovely. I paid 1k more from an OPC for my very similarly specced 15k mile one back in spring. Looks like asking prices are still creeping up. Understand why but it does take some getting your head around!

Would be interested to know what the trade bid is for that. Have a feeling it would be a bit of a rude shock like it was for my 997.1 GT3 a couple of years ago when retail values were similar

Lovely looking car but not sure I'd sell my kidney for it....it's a bit low on spec. Plastic Dash, No Bose, No Sports Chrono and most importantly no "Sport Shifter" as Porsche call it. Although the latter can be retrofitted.

Admittedly only the short shift is an absolute must have...but lots of people want the other three.

And it's absolutely all the car you'll ever need on the public highway....when you look at the "T" it really makes the manual 997 GTS stand out as a great car. Same weight as the lightened T....but 408 bhp from that lovely naturally aspirated powerkit engine

but a GT4 is now these sort of prices and a lot newer.

cheaper if you bought list.

I love the 997.2 GTS but these new prices don't help the car much, still very sort after, but GT4 for me every time.

mega buys at the £60k to £65k they once were. £75k for a poor spec car or £85k if you want all the bells and stuff from Hexagon.

I think the GT4 wins hands down at these prices just because one can adjust the geo which for me is a Massive key area.

for all the down sides the GT4 has, at the price point it's still bloody amazing.

I was anal about getting Sport Chrono when looking for mine, but in the end while it's a nice to have, not sure it makes any real difference to the drive on the road. Porsche diffs basically become open after 15k miles or so from what I can gather as they're friction plates? So then you're just left with the slightly lower, stiffer ride height (wouldn't want mine any stiffer on the road in normal mode, Sport PASM mode is already useless in the UK!), timing clock and possibly looser PSM in Sport mode - I say possibly as no OPC I called could ever confirm categorically that was the case for me.

Sports shifter is nice, assume it's the same sort of throw length as on a 997 GT3? Again, down to personal preference but I wouldn't pay money to change my standard item (or indeed pay money to change it back to the standard item).

Horses for courses of course. I'd use any personal perceived lack of spec as a negotiating point. I had the OPC fit cruise control to mine as part of the deal, something that cost them peanuts but would have cost me £700 or so!

I think that the 997 GTS is the 911 in specification terms best compared to a GT4. Both cars are well developed road cars and close in spec terms. I think For the buyer it will come down to driving dynamic which will be dependant on engine location.

If it were me, It would probably be the GTS as the rear engined config would sway me but the GT4 is the newer car. would be a tough decision.

GT4 is a different car though with more limited use cases. Even if I thought the GT4 was great and bought it as a road car, it would still be almost useless to me as I need rear seats for my daughter. The number of times it's just me or me and my other half in the car and not on a mundane 5 min drive, I can count on one hand in the last 2 years. At least with say a GT3 you can have rear belts fitted to hold a child seat in for family weekend trips out as we do with the GTS.

I have the short shift and it is a joy to use, the 2 seats in the back mean I can use my car 7 days a week, including school drop off and it changes the car totally. I do appreciate that 1.5m and 30mins is really the limit of the +2 seats.

Bose, well you've got PSE, why do you need a super duper stereo, these cars are quite loud for tyre noise etc anyhow, the top spec stereo isn't important in my humble opinion. Sports Chrono, yes that would be nice. Plastic dash, interesting, I have a friend with a racing Porsche 924, he took the dash out to save weight.

its all just discusson eh, I think the GT4 and 997 are different animals, useable in different environments, Its just so nice to have choice of two manual normally aspirated drivers cars....

oh, and I'm keeping my kidney smile

Tom from 911V has rung me and said for the free advertising I've given them he's letting me have the car for £1 and a nice bottle of Ardberg.

Really? I don't care about the plastic dash - the seats are leather - and Bose is shyte. I had it in a 997 and had to turn the bass to -6 before it sounded only half shyte. Mind you, I've had Burmester too and that wasn't great.

Would it be possible to get the dash (re)trimmed in leather?

I really don't understand why people are so affronted by the standard interior - and I am a picky bugger.

When I got my GTS I assumed it was the leather interior, because it had leather seats and the dash is quite pleasant. When I hear "plastic dash" I think of Korean hatchbacks. It's only when I posted up a photo that I was told mine is the dreaded plastic dash model. I'd been delighted with it until that point.

Prior to it I had a couple of 991Ss and another 997 Carrera S and the interior on the GTS doesn't seem inferior.

I realise obviously that I will be unable to sell it and will give it away to anyone who will take it, when I've finished with it.
