Faugh.

It's obviously a nice car yes but..... it's er... imo really not so much different from the 7.2rs. Take away the ridiculous 4.0 halo that has largely been generated in direct proportion to the price of the car (initially especially the rhd ones but unfortunately now caught up in the US) - the amount that the 4.0 is 'better' than the 3.8rs pretty much was correctly reflected in the difference in the list car price.
Agree completely!
I don’t think that changes my case for the 997 4.0 vs any other hot 911 since though.
It depends. you might have been slightly overstating the degree of superiority that's all compared to say the 991.2 gt3 which has the massive advantage of being far more accessible as well.

I only had a '75 2.7 Carrera ... which was really a 2.7RS Touring with cast rear suspension arms and impact bumpers .. and I currently own a 2.4S ...

The 997 4.0RS did feel a very special car and truly validated the 35+ years of development since the 2.7RS, so I don't feel that these two should be compared.

I did own a 991.2 CS for a short time and didn't feel it worth the extra cost over my GT4 ... fast yes, involving, not really.

I think that the 997 GT3 4.0 was and is a very special car ... and one that cannot now be replicated however Porsche perm the jigsaw.

I can see a lot of people who don't want the impracticality and lack of subtlety of the 992 RS, but want a little more exclusivity than a 'mere' 992 GT3 Touring being sold on this. Given the existence of the 991 R, there was always, inevitably going to be an ST at some point.

Shore blue, heritage pack without the stickers and a couple of other options. That'll do me. Sure I'll be at the head of the list of my local dealer, never bought a car from them though I've done a few test drives! laugh

Cant seem to see the carbon cage on the configurator. Is it not available for UK cars?
I can’t remember where but it is somewhere in an interior sub section on the German Config

Its in UK config
"Interior design" options, amusingly ( to me anyway ) in there along side all those important options like colour of your painted key and leather key covers

Yeah that’s the one - made me smile that it ended up there
I specced one and it came out at 324k euros - basically double of my 997.2 RS is worth atm - ouch

AP in the Top Gear video on the car said that they didn't want to use the R moniker because the 991R was one of his favourite cars ... so they came up with the 911S/T ... which is also his favourite car.

Alas, back down on earth ( relative terms) to building a spec for 911 S ( maybe ) ....the extra T is a step too far even if they all lost their minds at the OPC and allocated one .

It’s very interesting to have a look back.

With hindsight the 997 4.0RS really looks like king of the 911 hill.

It looked special, but not outrageous.
Manual. Short gears, 4.0. 500hp LWFW, no rear steer.
Super super lightweight. Small. 600 pieces worldwide.
Definitely not contrived or cynical.

I’m mean really has the 911 actually reached a high peak than that car or rather since has been trying to extend/maintain that high?

Your all mixed up T,the 3.8 rs is the better car, both have crap steering feedback smile

I was recently informed by a opc that all Gt products are by invite only from Porsche uk directive, having lent them 4 of my cars for there 70 year celebration and purchased a cayenne from them, these anniversaries are getting as cheeesy as the ltd edition nonsense, sad days for porsche, only been a Porsche customer since 1987!
AP is clearly scripted what to say by the marketing departments ,i remember him saying how poor the 993 gt2 was to me at silverstone while viewing the 918 prototype, mainly because they had no input on it.

He's got a point. The 918 is for they who manscape. The 993 GT2 is for the sort of hooligan that wipes their arse on their underpants.

46 S/Ts being allocated to UK dealers according to my OPC - being interesting to see how many get spec'd in the Heritage look.

I'd be very suprised if its that low. Most OPC's got 2 Sport Classic with 1250 built and between 4-5 Dakar with 2500 built so would guess around 3-4 ST depending on OPC size. If they are only getting 1 per OPC there will be alot of pcensoredd off people in the next few days.

Sure they aren't getting confused with Spyder RS?

Heritage is the one to go for IMO. Looks great. Not sure if i'd go for the blue though!

I’ve heard numbers ranging from 30-120. So it’s all guesswork.
