I have looked at the instagram release, the amount of negative comments about supply, porsche should truly be ashamed of what is going on and negative feedback, they clearly dont care and purchase is by invite only.
Oh cmon PAG clearly do care - it's exactly why purchase is by invite only......
Is it just me is anyone else loosing interest with porsche due to this invite only or sorry sir you’re not a good enough customer to have one of those.

I certainly am.
I actually prefer the upfront, By INVITE ONLY… rather than them saying…’not limited anyone can buy one’…but then, that actually NOT being the case and the shenanigans in the background.

At least you know, you can move along… lol

When they released the 991.2 AP said that owners should not attempt to fit a SMFW…can’t remember why but he explained why one wouldn’t be a good idea. Wonder what’s changed (given the engine is pretty similar) other than the need to fit one for marketing reasons ?
It's changed because they're now offering one. You know how AP works, it's the same situation as the manual gearbox wink

SMFW is the best mod you can make to a manual car IMHO.
You could always buy a 911 R T with the more expensive when new but clattery SMFW v DMFW option. biggrin:

Nah, not into 911s even if I could afford one. I'll stick with my lowly SMFW equipped GT4 driving

The 911R, GT3 Touring and this S/T are the only 911s that have really caught my eye. I guess I have a type wink

AFAIR it was due to the crankshaft design of 2 vs 1.
Preuninger would say that wouldn't he at the time to explain the lack of single mass flywheel for the 991.2..... wink until now that is obviously....

It’s very interesting to have a look back.

With hindsight the 997 4.0RS really looks like king of the 911 hill.

It looked special, but not outrageous.
Manual. Short gears, 4.0. 500hp LWFW, no rear steer.
Super super lightweight. Small. 600 pieces worldwide.
Definitely not contrived or cynical.

I’m mean really has the 911 actually reached a high peak than that car or rather since has been trying to extend/maintain that high?

It's a fabulous car. I drove the PEC example a few years back and it was all I expected it to be and more.

Loved it.

Cant seem to see the carbon cage on the configurator. Is it not available for UK cars?

Faugh.

It's obviously a nice car yes but..... it's er... imo really not so much different from the 7.2rs. Take away the ridiculous 4.0 halo that has largely been generated in direct proportion to the price of the car (initially especially the rhd ones but unfortunately now caught up in the US) - the amount that the 4.0 is 'better' than the 3.8rs pretty much was correctly reflected in the difference in the list car price.

It's there under "Interior Design", £3707.

The fact it's in that section says a lot!

Not sure, will check. Doesn't appear on the pics when specing it as standard. Maybe a glitch!

I don’t think that changes my case for the 997 4.0 vs any other hot 911 since though.

The problem is that if everyone / anyone could just buy one, hardly anybody would. It's a bit of a tightrope - perceived exclusivity of a limited run car is a big part of the perceived appeal and that evaporates if it's fully open access to anyone who can cough up the cash.

Honestly think there's a real likelihood if they invested heavily to tool up to build as many as people wanted, they'd actually end up building less and not only does the business case for the individual model implodes, but the marketing / halo effect of model like this is also damaged / compromised.

Still, it's another 2,000 GT cars for the storage units and trickle chargers. Maybe, just maybe, the GT car supply side mountain combined with economic turmoil might just see a price correction. But it's seemed like that was due for nearly 10 years, so....!
